[Day 11 - Early Evening] Bon Festival: Game Stalls! [RP THREAD]

Welcome to the Bon Festival!



Simple stalls have been erected to provide light entertainment to the festival's visitors of all ages, with simple prizes to win. In-between these stalls are booths that provide refreshments and snacks, as well as some that sell simple trinkets and other festival-related knicknacks. For many, the festival is as much a day of relaxation and fun, as well as a day to venerate and honor the departed, and folks wearing their festive yukata is a common sight.

The area have many signs and decorations giving thanks to all the businesses and people that have contributed to making this part of the festival the delight that it is. Which of course includes the big names of KINSENKA BREWERIES and UOMOTO CO. , as well as the many, many local shops of Nakahama.

[Bayushi Kazushi]

Kazushi's not one for games. Not one for festivals. Not really one for religion in general. Today, though, he feels like he needs to be out here, doing his part in honor of the dead...

Realizing she had posted in the wrong thread! Suh-Hyun covers by wandering around the game stalls. She was in a morose mood so didn't seem keen on indulging in any of the games.

Having just stumbled and fallen in the sack race, Taraka couldn't help but laugh a little. It felt a bit silly to do things like this, but no event organizer wanted to feel like their preparations were for naught.

She spotted a mournful looking Unicorn. Not uncommon given the theme of the day. And so she approached and bowed.

"Good evening, Shinjo-san." she offered. "Have you had rice today?"

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Having just stumbled and fallen in the sack race, Taraka couldn't help but laugh a little. It felt a bit silly to do things like this, but no event organizer wanted to feel like their preparations were for naught.

She spotted a mournful looking Unicorn. Not uncommon given the theme of the day. And so she approached and bowed.

"Good evening, Shinjo-san." she offered. "Have you had rice today?"

"Hello Yasuki-san," Suh-Hyun shook her head, the smile on her lips didn't reach her eyes. Her tone was lacking a lot of the usual excited cheer typical of her, "I have. And you?"

Her gaze drifted from the Crab and took in the surroundings, but didn't seem to take any interest in anything particular.

[Yasuki Taraka]

"Hello Yasuki-san," Suh-Hyun shook her head, the smile on her lips didn't reach her eyes. Her tone was lacking a lot of the usual excited cheer typical of her, "I have. And you?"

Her gaze drifted from the Crab and took in the surroundings, but didn't seem to take any interest in anything particular.

It was a day of mourning, after all. Suh-Hyun's losses must have been recent indeed to have her so solemn....well or she was like Taraka's father and given to excessive mourning.

Taraka nodded.

"Indeed I have. Fortunate the weather for today is behaving, no?" she asked, looking out at the sky. "The Fortunes are kind to neither drown us in rain or steam cook us quite as thoroughly as they were yesterday."

The other scorpion wanders the festival grounds with great bags under his eyes. The painkillers were helping the bruises, but he still hisses when he takes a step the wrong way. The icy blue eyes trail different games, different opportunities for leisure... There was one that caught his eye, but he was hurting a bit to take the dip just yet.

As he walks he crosses paths with his superior. Taking a low and respectful bow, no sound escapes even as the sting in his stomach screams at him. When he rises he is the same poised and charming young man he always is, even if his face could do some touchups to maintain the illusion.

"Kazushi-san! Enjoying the festivities I hope. Kasumi-san and Kurumi-san aren't with you? They agreed to take a day off for the first time ever?"

It was a day of mourning, after all. Suh-Hyun's losses must have been recent indeed to have her so solemn....well or she was like Taraka's father and given to excessive mourning.

"Perhaps they too recognize the solemness of the moment." Her eyes flick skyward, "And have given their blessing."

Suh-Hyun looks to the Yasuki and manages a weak smile, "Forgive me, Yasuki-san. I...may be poor company this evening."

"They're off enjoying the games," Kazushi replies, gesturing off toward the stands. "I found I wasn't in the mood, and I'm still pretty tired. Not as tired as you should be, of course - how are you even still on your feet?"

"Perhaps they too recognize the solemness of the moment." Her eyes flick skyward, "And have given their blessing."

"If it's entertainment I need, it is but steps away."

She looked back to the Shinjo.

"However, if it is solitude you need, it is also mere steps away. I will not think less of you regardless of whether you wish to converse with me, or wish to be free of me. Not on a day like today." she assured her.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Taraka shook her head.

She gestured to the various stalls.

She looked back to the Shinjo.

"However, if it is solitude you need, it is also mere steps away. I will not think less of you regardless of whether you wish to converse with me, or wish to be free of me. Not on a day like today." she assured her.

"No...it's just, I wanted to warn you," Suh-Hyun sighed, "Mourning is often better when you have company. On the carrier we would gather in the mess hall. There was a duty roster there. Everyone checked it to see not just their deployments but..."

The Unicorn pauses for a moment, looking away and frowning, "for missing names. The dead had already served their final duty."

"I didn't expect a death here."

[Bayushi Hinata]

"They're off enjoying the games," Kazushi replies, gesturing off toward the stands. "I found I wasn't in the mood, and I'm still pretty tired. Not as tired as you should be, of course - how are you even still on your feet?"

"Im tougher than I look! My dad has some Daidoji in him, that's probably the reason!" He says with a wide, toothy grin, arms at his hips, wide posture, like he wasn't even hurt.

"In any case, I can't blame you. These past 24 hours haven't been too kind on the nerves."

[Bayushi Kazushi]

"I was up all night," Kazushi confesses, "helping the local law enforcement sift through what was left behind."

He sighs.

"It wasn't much. Aside from what we already figured out, I couldn't learn anything more. I'm sure there's something, though."

[Yasuki Taraka]

She looked at the various fair goers.

"It hasn't been too many years since my mother would have been with us at the festival here. Honoring those who had passed before us. The traditions and the ceremonies remain, both unchanged and forever changed as those we care for pass on to their next spin on the kharmic wheel." she mused.

She closes her eyes and frowns, "It was a brutal fight in the frontier. This recent loss brings back the memories of my dead comrades."

There's always something more to do right?" He says, his tone exhausted, even if his expression remained cheery.

"You'll run yourself ragged Kazushi-sama. I think your wife will want plenty pictures of you participating in the festival, you'll be going to one with your child soon enough..." He doesn't smirk, he doesn't try and rile up his boss. He only looks wistfully to the differetn attractions. A future he can almost grasp, but not hold, not yet at least. Weary are the faces that bear the mask.

"I recommend you cherish those opportunities. Which will mean taking this one to relax and have some less than mature fun!" Now that's the Hinata he'll remember, wide grin, energetic tone, almost giddy with childlike excitement.

"How about a sack race? Wanna test your skill against your Yojimbo?"

That gets a smile. A bit of one.

"Maybe later, I think," Kazushi says. "These sorts of festivals get me into a weird mood, so who knows?"

That's the point that Katsumi and Kurumi choose to return, with bundles in hand.

"I caught a fish!" says Katsumi happily. "We also brought back some takoyaki...oh!"

The secretary stops as she notices Hinata's presence, and bows.

"...luckily, I think we've got enough for five, here," she continues.

That gets a smile. A bit of one.

"Maybe later, I think," Kazushi says. "These sorts of festivals get me into a weird mood, so who knows?"

That's the point that Katsumi and Kurumi choose to return, with bundles in hand.

"I caught a fish!" says Katsumi happily. "We also brought back some takoyaki...oh!"

The secretary stops as she notices Hinata's presence, and bows.

"...luckily, I think we've got enough for five, here," she continues.

"Maybe later then." He smiles his way. Then turns with a brighter smile to the two attendants.

"Katsumi-san! Kurumi-san!" He says with a curt bow to each woman. "Glad to see you're enjoying the festivities, oh! Don't mind if I do, I love takoyaki!" He cheerfully takes the fried seafood ball and takes a bite, a delighted expression spreads on his face.

"You should have some Kazushi-san. We don't know whether they'll have seafood where we're going next!"

[Yasuki Taraka]

"The Shi-Tien Yen-Wang call their own to their side," Suh-Hyun added, "And Moto-san rides with them tonight."

Her smile remains, still not reaching her eyes, "My apologies for your loss. My own are not so close but haven't the distance of time behind them."

She closes her eyes and frowns, "It was a brutal fight in the frontier. This recent loss brings back the memories of my dead comrades."

Taraka nodded.

"As it has been said, 'the warrior's path is made smooth by many feet walking the same way.'" Taraka said. "While I may not walk it myself, our mandatory military service as a clan means I have at a bit more understanding of that than clans who do not and have worlds that are completely pacified, away from all of the conflicts of the Empire."

She looked to the skies.

"There will be many more such losses when the war comes. I try to cherish my time with my friends who serve in the military, because who knows how many more festivals we will be able to enjoy together?" she offered.

"Maybe later then." He smiles his way. Then turns with a brighter smile to the two attendants.

"Katsumi-san! Kurumi-san!" He says with a curt bow to each woman. "Glad to see you're enjoying the festivities, oh! Don't mind if I do, I love takoyaki!" He cheerfully takes the fried seafood ball and takes a bite, a delighted expression spreads on his face.

"You should have some Kazushi-san. We don't know whether they'll have seafood where we're going next!"

"I'll have my share," says Kazushi, "and as for where we're going next...I'm thinking about establishing a vacation home here."
