[Day 9 - Late Afternoon] RP Thread: Security Testing

The Hanei Tower is rented once more to host the network security exhibition. Unlike the previous days where the tower was filled with amusing costumes and games, competitive card games, or reality informator chefs...the rented space finds itself to be much more reserved, catering to traditional business and technicians. Everyone attending is expected to be dressed for business with a cluster of computers and booths promising only amusement in the most technical sense.

The refreshments are minimal, with only water and bao provided, cut into small portions.

[Yasuki Taraka]

While there was a lot of fun to be had on the island, which was certainly reflected in the governor's choice of activities, at the end of the day, this was supposed to be about business. Sadly, hacking was a lot more boring than it was made out to be In Silver Fin productions. It didn't matter how fast you typed, there would be no dramatic yells of 'I'm in!', no sunglasses in doors. Just row after rows of computer screens, and people talking the most technical of shop. Still, if people were serious about doing business with the island, they needed to showcase they could do more than party the hardest.

Taraka, dressed in her professional best, had a water cup in hand as she walked from area to area, evaluating this showcase of virtual defenses. I mean, what Crab didn't love defense? And Wall was right in the world Firewall. It would be a much more reserved event, but after days of excitement, a little tranquility would be nice...right before the much more flashy and bright arcade night.

[Bayushi Kazushi]

Kazushi doesn't look the part of a hacker...



...but he actually seems to be enjoying playing the part. His workstation is covered in empty energy drink bottles (with Katsumi carting even more away) which helped him hit "the zone" in his coding, but now he's wandering around the site, too, seeing what else is on offer. He gives Taraka a friendly wave as the two pass each other in the halls.

[Yasuki Nagisa]

There was an attendee here who wasn't dressed in a suit or even a kimono, but a military uniform. Yasuki Nagisa was in attendance for the network security exhibition, dressed in a navy blue, short-sleeved Crab Clan naval officer uniform with a stylish shoulder cap to accent. She seemed slightly amused by the refreshment offering of merely a plastic cup of water with a morsel of bao. My, my, they really shorted out the budget on refreshments here...

[Moto Shiwahime]

''What do you mean portions of a bao?'' Shiwahime glanced at the poor sad little buns, cut in their prime. ''There should be a law against this!''

She growled at the waiter, hilariously tiny cup and a tragically very partial remain of a bao in her hands. The difference in size from what was served and the Moto holding it was notable...especially for her.

She sighed and turned away to spot a face that stood out. The military uniform really did let her stand out

She approached the new face, certain that a military woman might be of interest thought she was not familiar with the insignias save from the Yasuki emblem.

''Good afternoon Yasuki-sama'' she bowed ''Nice tats''

[Kaiu Tetsu]

Tetsu smiles as he identifies a familiar face. Taraka really seems to fit here, and it really isn't surprising. On the other hand, the businesswear he's in still feels a bit like a costume.

"Yasuki-san" he greets her. "I would say that it's a surprise to see you, but I had a feeling that you would be here to protect your investment."

Tetsu smiles as he identifies a familiar face. Taraka really seems to fit here, and it really isn't surprising. On the other hand, the businesswear he's in still feels a bit like a costume.

"Yasuki-san" he greets her. "I would say that it's a surprise to see you, but I had a feeling that you would be here to protect your investment."

The formal introduction got a quirk of the eyebrow and a bow.

"Security has always been the most important thing to the Crab. But brick and mortar do little to protect you against enemies who can strike from miles away unseen." she replied. "But we spoke about your own experience with interfacing with other clan's software. Has anything really caught your eye at this demonstration?"

She approached the new face, certain that a military woman might be of interest thought she was not familiar with the insignias save from the Yasuki emblem.

The Yasuki officer would smile at the other woman and return the bow with a nod. "Good afternoon, Moto-san. Thank you. I didn't expect to be complimented on my ink work in a network security exhibition, but I'll consider that a small bonus to my visit here. The refreshments here really help us work up an appetite, I'm sure you agree. I'm Yasuki Nagisa, Captain of the Carp's Caprice."

A second Nagisa has hit the scene.

Back in her shirt and tie, she doesn’t quite look like the auto mechanic people know her as. And she feels very uncomfortable, but is able to hide it.

Especially as she feels pretty great about performance. But staying hydrated is a must for a day like this. With water in hand, she is content to watch over the other guests and competitors.

There’s a momentary confusion, however, as she heard her name. But she must have been mistaken.

''I am Moto Shiwahime, just a doshin for my clan'' the large woman replied ''To be fair your ink work is impressive Ma'am. Easily one of the most interesting thing here and you are easily the most interesting person. I mean...the bar is not high if these...'' she showed the aforementioned refreshments ''...are judged as anywhere near acceptable to this crowd. But I reckon you'd still clear it even in better circumstance.''

She took the half sip required to empty the cup

''Anyway it's a pleasure to meet you capt'n. How was the travels?''

Tetsu notices the quirk and realizes his word choice but it's now passed.

This is getting confusing I'm going to need to settle this before I leave

"Well you were right in that I was underestimating the difficulty of the different styles of coding. I'm modifying the approach, at least to start. Intrastellar shipping with local subsidiaries for construction would bypass that issue as well as the navigator bottleneck"

"But in terms of style? The Mantis have a particularly aggressive counterattack for intrusion which undoes your own countermeasures the longer you're in the system. It's rather clever considering their numbers"

Taraka nodded.

"It seemed pretty effective. The Scorpion offer was interesting. If given enough time, anyone can overcome it without risk, but put for all those apparent weakness in it's code that are really just traps to tempt those who think they've found a quick way to bypass it." she offered.

She smiled a bit.

"Though, if that's their strategy, to appear weak to lure the unwary, it wouldn't surprise me at all if this version on display isn't the actual product. They likely will look the same, but I would expect that those supposed safe routes will just lead to other countermeasures. Likely something that keeps you connected while they trace the source of the intrusion. I'm pretty sure the key to stealing secrets from the clan of secrets is not actually patience." she theorized.

Kisha, shaking her head, walks into the observation area, such as it is.

Haruhi was just wrapping up at the station where she'd been working.

"Bayushi-sama, it's always good to see you. And another tremendous outfit. May I take a picture? My sister loves to see what the most fashionable folks are wearing."

"I'd be interested in hearing her opinion," Kazushi says, nodding. "It's a touch on the dramatic side, even for me, but it has potential..."

[Tamori Kanna]

Kanna yawned as she sat back down with her snacks, watching Igoro go around to offer sandwiches to anyone who would want them (hoping the Crab wouldn't be upset he was maybe interfering with their hospitality, but in his defense he was only doing what he was told to do!).

This computer stuff was very exhausting work indeed!

Nagisa smiled softly, and her blue eyes gave a casual sweep of the surroundings, as if making a note of all of the attendees of the exhibition. "I'm sure that your fellow guests and hosts are also interesting here too. I did see on the informator that there was a great deal of excitement here a few days ago, but it seems like it's back to business, at least for today."

"I've been staying on Gakko Island for the last few days to attend to other business and visit my old pond at the Radiant Scale dojo. Something did bring me back here initially, concern for a friend. She's doing better now, it seems. But I'm also glad to be here for the network security exhibition. Outside of my command of the Carp's Caprice, this is something of my wheelhouse, you could say. It's very fascinating to see all of these different programs on display," she gestured to the Unicorn section as a topic. "The one from the Unicorn is an interesting offering, ensuring the hacker gets trapped in a loop to complete the connection or suffer from an immediate disconnection. It's pretty cute and thematic in many ways."

''I don't deny that some interesting things happened recently but I was not part of them...aside from taking a claw to the tits at the onsen from a volcano lizard.

She also gaze at the assembly before returning to the captain

I am a manhunter...not a programmer. I am glad your friend feel better though. Must be dear to you to have come all the way here for them. They are lucky to have you Ma'am.''

Taraka nods.

"I got a letter from Tamori-san and Kitsuki-san yesterday." she admitted. "Like an actual handwritten letter, though it read like they'd written multiple copies for different Crab."

She shook her head.

"I have to wonder at how some of these clans conduct business. I know 'Ew, money, my honor is all I need.' and so, but seriously, over a week for an initial approach at negotiations taking place in under two?" she wondered.
