Day 6 MM: Prepping and helping

She would delay her run today as the night's rain really had done a number on the island and other things might require her attention.

She drove as best and as fast she could to Tenjin Town, hoping to lend a hand...and, perhaps, ask for advice about imitation crab and the ways to prepare it.

Haruhi was helping in the flood relief efforts. At the moment, she was delivering food to an area where those flooded out of their homes were gathering.

She noticed the tall Unicorn woman.

She gave a wave and bow. "Ah, I had been hoping to have a chance to introduce myself to you. You were so splendid as the Marquise Chimère at the game! An absolute force to be reckoned with."

"I'm Kakita Haruhi. I played a fellow rebel. Of modest impact. But it was really fun."

"How have you been enjoying your time in Nakahama so far?"

She'd seem this crane woman before, but she was wondering if she'd had seen her during the larping event

''Oh, hi!'' she responded, coming closer ''Glad you enjoyed my character though I am not sure I have seen yours. I am Moto Shiwahime.''

She looked around, wary of any potential urgency

''It's been...fine...I suppose...but I must ask about the state of things here. Have you seen Yasuki Haruto yet?''

"We didn't interact at the LARP. I played 'the Queen of Snow and Blood' - a rebel rose - mostly in the residential area scenes. Honestly, I didn't make much of an impact. No reason you'd remember me. My vision of the character was a little grander than my efforts in the actual game." She smiled. "But I'm hoping to play more since I'll be here for months - if not years - on my current commission."

"Yasuki Haruto-sama?" She thought for a moment. "I have not met them yet."

"But the locals coordinating the relief effort have been in and out. Lots to do! I brought food for the folks waiting here, and was just going to circulate and see if anyone needed anything else. I'm a guest. I don't want to get in the way."

Shiwahime listened, slowly nodding

''Ah, we were in different sectors. That explains it...'' she shrugs ''That was my first LARP too but I wouldn't fret about impact in such. I'd think what is brought to the narrative is best.''

She looks around hoping to catch an idea of what is going on

''Yasuki Haruto is one of the people in charge here. I'd wager that if we can help he'd know how''

[Kakita Haruhi]

"It is good of you to come help. I'm sure it will be clear how to best help soon. If nothing else, we can help distribute food."

"What brings you to Nakahama? Anything in particular?"

[Moto Shiwahime]

''Pretty sure they have stores of food here. This is the place where a lot of the Uomoto Co's production take place....still any bit of relief can help. The village is self-reliant enough though so I am hopeful things are under control.''

It felt weird to talk about things rather then doing things but without guidance she was not sure they would be effective.

''Yearly vacation. My squad leader chose this place for me''

"True. It may be respectful of the Crab to assume they need nothing, and simply be present, pleasantly socializing, and available at the least sign of need."

"Your squad leader? You are in the military? Do you miss being on duty when you have vacation?"

As expected, it seemed the populace of the Tenjin Town was already going through restoring their settlement after the storm. Thanks to some preventative measure and the storm being more bark than bite, it wasn't quite a disaster zone. Nevertheless, there was still a lot of work waiting for the locals in the morning. Some work in progress included some people fishing for large debris from the water, right some small rafts that might have been flung by the waves, reinforcing structures that kept the homes above water, repairing siding and roofs that might have been blown off their more simple homes and the list of work went on.

Tenjin Town was secondary to Nakahama City when it came to the Public Works restoration crew, but it seemed there was a bit of self-reliance from the locals about the known fact, as they were already at work.


Yasuki Haruto

Haruto could be seen with some of the heimen as they attempted to untangle a chain of shellfish traps that had found themselves embarrassingly with stuck to the corner of someone's house.

''I am a doshin for my clan's magistrature. We are a mobile unit that responds to special cases or for faraway colonies'' she replied before spotting the man she was looking for

''Oh I see him'' Shiwahime pointed out then began moving in that direction ''The workers might enjoy one of your snacks, Kakita-sama.''

''Yasuki-san, good morning. I see Tenjin Town is as resilient as I though it was. Still...can we lend a hand?''

"Ah, good morning, Moto-san," Haruto greeted the Moto with a soft smile, despite being sweaty and parts of him probably soaked in more seawater than rain. He would offer a similar radiance with the Crane who accompanied her. "You've come to visit Tenjin Town at a very peculiar time. As you see, we're trying to get things back in order after the storm. Tenjin Town remains standing, of course, thanks to its foundations and the people who are both the heart and its lifeblood."

"I'm Yasuki Haruto, process assistant to the administrator of Tenjin Town. Pleased to meet a friend of Moto-san here," he would introduce himself to the Crane.

"We can use some aid in labour here, if you're willing. It seems the netting has found itself entangled with the roofing here. As you see, we're trying to dislodge it without causing further damage to the roof," he would gesture to the work he was overseeing at the moment.

[Kakita Haruhi]

"Pleased to meet you, Yasuki-sama."

"I'm happy to help untangle nets. Perhaps small hands will be a boon." Her hand were small and slender. "Or the skills of an artisan."

[Moto Shiwahime]

"I'll help however I can. Maybe I can lift someone up?" she proposed

"If not I am fine with any other physical labor"

"Please, hardly a -sama in the slightest," he would say with a gentle chuckle and give her another bow. "I might be ingrained with much of the local community in Tenjin Town, but at the end of the day and the grand scope of your daily life, I am merely a humble civil servant of the island. If you wish to help, we would be indebted to your kindness, Kakita-san."

With that, he offered her to climb the ladder to the roof to reach the entangled traps. He would hold the ladder down to keep it from slipping on the metal platform they were standing on.

"If you wish to help, there's an ongoing effort to fish some debris from the waters," Haruto indicated to the mouth of the river where they were situated, in than the actual open sea. "It seems that some people haven't been able to properly stow their belongings prior to the storm, and much of it has been tossed by the wind. Choi-san can guide to the efforts if you wish to help."

With that she moved towards the mouth of the river to find this Choi-san

Haruhi climbed the latter to work on the entangled nets.

She's untangled her sister's necklaces before. And her sewing kit. It wasn't an entirely unfamiliar idea.

And ... there! She had it!

"There you go! I made sure to keep the traps as intact as possible. I know how important an artisan's tools are to their work!"

There were a few of the heimen who looked unsure about the Crane's involvement. While she wasn't a Crab, and their masters did ingrain propaganda into them that the Crab were the strongest, she was still a samurai.

When she managed to untangle the traps from their unfortunate placement, the heimen did give a few looks of approval and a bow in thanks for her efforts.

"Many of the residents here have never seen a Crane before. Thank you very much for your able hands, Kakita-san," Haruto would bow in thanks once she came down from the ladder.

This Choi wasn't too far from where they gathered, thankfully. It seemed they were busy trying to pull a tuk-tuk from the water. They already had divers tie a rope to the submerged vehicle, but didn't have the luxury of a powered rope winch to do the much-needed labour! Shiwahime was perhaps treated to the sight of several heimen trying to use their bare strength in lifting the vehicle up.

''Hello! Choi-san? Let met help you pull this thing!'' said the Moto in quite the jovial manner before planting her feet solidly and taking hold

With her present, the embarkation would not take long to move and be settled where it should be

Haruhi smiled at Yasuki Haruto's kind words and the friendly heinen. She was here to represent the Crane. And the Crane were helpful!

She watched in awe as Moto-san oved the tuk-tuk. She was so strong!

That was easily impressive, earning some awe in some of the locals who were observing. Shiwahime might have even earned a few claps from them! The labourers who joined in the effort would bow in thanks for the extra muscle from the large Unicorn.

With the tuk-tuk out, there was likely a whole lot of mechanical work to be done in hopes of getting the vehicle in working order again. That was very likely not going to be today.

"Thank you both for your help," he would thank them again with a bow. "Many of us have been working since the first light of dawn, and we haven't had the opportunity to get some breakfast yet. I think we're making too leeway to be taking a short break now. Perhaps you can join us for a meal? It's not much, I admit, mostly what the local kitchens can whip up from last night's stock."
