(D5 LA COMBAT) An Unwelcome Guest

Nakahama is usually a safe part of a fairly dangerous ecosystem. However, every one and a while, something slips through the patrols...



Having accidentally wandered away from the nice hot volcanic gasses it was enjoying a volcano lizard seems to have found the next best thing: an onsen. It came rather suddenly (as suddenly as a giant lizard can) out of the nearby wilderness and has made the onsen its home. It is currently stomping around, occasionally mauling the peasants that service the establishment, and weren't able to get to shelter in time.

A squad of Crab are on their way. Samurai have been requested to shelter in place or vacate the establishment. However, if anyone felt like saving peasants... or just killing a big lizard...

Players all begin at the entrance to the onsen grounds, with the giant lizard about 20' away. It is known that it can cover this distance quickly.

Armor is not permitted for this event, as it cannot really be justified. However, it is permissible that you just happened to have your duel-wielded bazookas in your truck or whatever.

Warning! Volcano Lizards are known to be somewhat resistant to Fire Spells and Radiant Weaponry, although volume will bring them down.

As the lizard continued its...rampage? Stroll? Protest? Distant yells could be heard:

"Where is it? Where's the giant lizard?"
"Lady are you crazy? Get out of here!"

Then a little closer:

Giant lizard? Where?! Where?! Where?!?
"Just wait for law enforcement, it was going into the onsen!"


Until finally a dripping wet Ochiba wearing half a towel which after a dead sprint across half the complex covers little and hides even less burst onto the scene, panting with a gun in one hand, another slung in a harness over her shoulder (and which was chafing horribly, thank you giant lizard!) and a sparking fan in the other.

"Okay you-" gasp "-giant lizard thing" wheeze "-Don't be boring."

[Moto Shiwahime]

Shiwahime had some time to kill on her hands and there was only so much training she could do before the Edge of Darkness event a bit later tonight. A hot spring would do wonders to relax her musculature but the Natsuzora Ryokan and Spa seemed too...uptight...for her and it was not unexpensive.

A good compromise came when she had heard of an onsen near the mountains in a more natural area. Now that she was ready to spend on and it gave her a bit of sightseeing opportunity driving there.

The talk was true and the place did not disappoint.

Her stuff in the lockers, she happily let herself sink into the warm waters. One of the rare moments where she allowed herself to truly relax, eyes closing

Then shouts and cries began to be heard...and coming closer

What the motherfuking muddy fucktrumpetis happening?

The Moto clenched her jaws as the situation became clearer and, nearly without pause, rushed out of the waters to grap her chain and scimitar from the locker.

The little pause she took was to grab and tie a towel around her waist to protect whatever modesty she had. She fastened her sword belt around the towel to give it less chances to fall off but she suspected she'd be ass naked soon enough.

Making haste towards the commotion chain in one hand and her blade in the other, she arrived in time to see the lizard-beast swat a worker aside. She slid sideways to take cover behind a pillar to evaluate the situation and her angle of approach

She was pretty sure she saw at least another here and she was glad she wouldn't have to do this alone

[Tamori Kanna]

Kanna was still in her underwear, a cute mask on her face, when the noise appeared. It had even made Kaida awaken from his snooze and the dog scrambled to identify the sounds as his chosen hooman threw on the under-kimono and followed too, grabbing her backpack while moving and... AND OH MY KAMI! THAT WAS SCARY!!

Then Ochiba and Shiwahime went past her out the door to face this thing, and Kanna decided to follow too - what if they got hurt?! Kaida followed Kanna because someone had to try to scare away the scary thing!!

Which meant Kaida stopped right inside the door and started barking to show dominance, and he was totally not at all scared, honest!

Kanna grabbed the deflector fan, one of the few 'weapons' she carried, from the backpack and fired up the holoslates.

Suh-Hyun had heard something was happening. She wasn't a defender of this world, but a warrior was still a warrior. Seeing her clan mate, the Mantis, and little Kanna. The Unicorn stepped up to protect her friends and minimize whatever damage could be done by this creature.

She said nothing as she took her position in line and prepared for a fight. For now she would fall back on the katana.

Motoshiwame, perhaps figuring that if it consumes the largest of the samurai first, it can consume the others at its leisure. It struck with its claws savagely, but only grazed the big Moto.

Ochiba shifts enough to try and put herself between the snack-sized-samurai and the giant lizard before launching herself forward with a feral grin at the creature as it tries to maul the Moto.


"Your skull is coming home with me!"
The Mantis slides under the lizard's stomach and there's a series of bright retinal imprint leaving flashes from underneath.

Kanna moved behind Ochiba, as she was told to do. "But... it's dangerous to go alone!"

Tapping over her holoslates, Kanna selected the prayer to the water kami she was familiar with, one of the few she had for occasions such as these. She was not a combat priest like most of her Tamori-kun, but the Tonbo had taught her how to be helpful to those who were warriors.

"Water kami, grant her your speed and strength!"

Magic soared through her, and channeled into Ochiba, and the Mantis would feel a surge of energy. [Ochiba may make a Simple Action to attack at the end of the Combat Round]

In the background, Kaida was still barking, though with a bit more whimpering now because the thing was closer!!

Stand Against the Waves
A samurai who possesses the speed and strength of the mighty river is a dangerous foe indeed. The target of this spell gains a Simple Action during the Reaction Stage of the current Combat Round. This action may only be used to make an attack. If the target is incapable of making an attack as a Simple Action, this spell grants him a Complex Action instead. This spell cannot give a shugenja the ability to cast a second spell in the same Round.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Suh-Hyun would have been impressed by the Mantis's awesome display of punching, but she was hyper focused on the target. Leaping forward past Kanna, the agile samurai cut easily into the creature...doing only minor damage. The heart was willing but the arms were wiry and weak.

"Strike it Moto-san! Before it turns it's wrath on the Yoritom and Little Kanna!"

The giant lizard was not quite dead, but it was beginning to pine for the volcano. A volcano where it got shot a lot less.

With a whoop and a little assistance from the water kami Ochiba pushes off and slides back under the lizard from the other direction with another bright flash before springing back up next to Kanna.

"Can you thank the spirits for their help? That was sick."

Volcano Lizards were tough, but geez, there are limits. The electric-charged blasts from the Mantis right into its peasant-filled gut was more than even its heat resistance could deal with.

And so, it toppled over, dead.

Shiwahime had taken the hit from the beast, she managed keeping it's maw at bay with her chain but it's claws reached her torso, drawing blood.

''OW MY TITS'' the Moto snarled but...it was already over.

She looked around disappointed

''That's it? That's really it?''

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"It is good it died quickly and thus prevented further deaths." Suh-Hyun lowered her katana and breathed out. A life ended but many saved, a fact far more important to the Shinjo than having a good fight.

"You are an exceptionally dangerous woman Yoritomo-san." She cleans the blade and slides it into her sheath. And immediately turned her attention to her kin, "Moto-sama you are injured, do you need assistance?"

[Yoritomo Ochiba]

"Easy come, easy go."
Ochiba finger guns the rest of the team. Before winking at Suh-Hyun
"Not just a pretty face."

"Good fun though, been itching to shoot someone since I landed. Uhh, dibs on the skull by the way."
With a satisfied hum the Mantis pads off to get a bucket to de-gore.

Kaida kept barking a bit more. That would show the overgrown newt who was boss!! YEAH! THAT'S RIGHT! I AM LORD KAIDA AND MY MINIONS WILL DEFEAT YOU ANY DAY!!!

Kanna on the other hand checked in on the only one that got chomped. "Moto-san, do you require healing from the kami?"

With one final bark, Kaida decided it was safe to approach, though he was still keeping his distance as he was sniffing very curiously at all this lizardy-stuff...
