Episodes that weren't

Post by Utaku Itsuka »

Talking to the GM team, they gave the go ahead to post one of those here, so I thought it mighte neat to get a thread for it in case others show up.

This is a place for event posts that get lost in the void due to not getting ready in time.

Here's the first - the pilot that wasn't!

Wouldn't win anything either way, but I'll go ahead and post it here just for the fun :) I had some fun writing it

Itsuka had some doubts she could pull this off... but she and some others had been discussing ideas of a similar kind, so she thought - why not?

She was reasonably sure she wouldn't be the only one to try something like this. A comm message to Suh-Hyun confirmed her suspicion. At least they'd tried something a bit different. Kind of.

Like two different sets of spinoffs of a well-known late 3000s show, you might say. Except each of them drew on a set of different other, unrelated shows.

The nods in Itsuka's script were rather obvious. It was pretty much your obvious 'coming of age' / shojo show, featuring a less than brilliant young girl whose unexpected talent as an ace pilot leads her to a leading position in an all-girl team, the "pretty squadron", with the important mission of protecting their Island land against all sorts of monsters (very clearly meant to depict effects of the taint).

The main character, Tsubasa, was of course the Captain of the "Pretty Squadron". And Captain Tsubasa of course liked soccer.

Anyway.

Itsuka had no clue on how to look for talented actors, but she did manage to get in contact with some people at Silver Fin, and, after some talk, they set her up with a young, promising actress, Yasuki Mie.

She seemed to actually like the role, kind of, and although she was somewhat frustrated at Itsuka's obvious lack of training, they did manage to talk through most of the ideas for the pilot episode.

Mie even got to develop something of a personality for "Taicho Tsubasa" - somewhat clumsy, happy-go-lucky, silly, but protective... things seemed like they could actually work, after all.

Except, unexpectedly enough, Mie apparently was more into the soccer aspect of the character than the piloting. She convinced the camera crew to add another scene with her playing against the other "Pretty Winged Soldiers", Itsuka couldn't find it in her heart to insist on keeping soccer to a secondary theme... and in the end the pilot ended with more kicking than actual piloting.

The people at Silver Fin were less convinced about Yasuki Mie than they could have been, of course. For now.

Little did they know that a version of "Captain Tsubasa" starring her would actually become a great hit in the future, as it did in the past. No piloting in it though.
