[Closed] Mount-Up! (Day 3, MA)

[Yoritomo Ochiba]

Ochiba loiters by the base of Mount Jinsei in the carpark, nearly brimming with energy as she hops from one foot to the other. She'd paid a few porters to go ahead so now the area was fairly quiet with only the occasional tourist or hiker passing through.

The Mantis was dressed for a walk, athletic leggings, singlet, broad-brimmed hat, hiking bag positively overflowing with newly purchased supplies. It was a hard outfit to look cool in, leaning against a sports car, but damn it, she was going to try...right after she did one more walk around to double check everything.

Nerves? Never heard of her.

Compared to Mount Nakahama, Mount Jinsei didn't have the best roads to drive around in, most of the mountain was perhaps more of a provincial park than the temperamental volcanic island with all of the fearsome lizards that lived there. That said, it didn't mean that people wouldn't try driving on the dirt roads here to get where they wanted. There was a roar of an engine in the distance as a beige sports car approached where Ochiba was waiting, more focused on raw power than elegant sleekness, but that didn't mean it wasn't a looker nevertheless.

If Ochiba still had nerves, she had best deal with them soon.

If Ochiba still had nerves, she had best deal with them soon.

Piloting a muscle car up wholly unsuited roads? Swoon.

Ochiba makes sure to check her hair, heart thumping unusually fast in her chest (must be the altitude) then casually looks over and waves, starting a ‘I’m not too hurried’ walk over to where the car was pulling in.

Whoever drove such a car here might have appreciated having the speed and appearance, but wasn't bothered about maintaining it. Then again, there were a few Kaiu garages on Shiawase Island that would appreciate the headache of keeping it in working order, maybe?

The door would open from the driver's side, and Yasuki Ayame would emerge into view. While it might have been neat to continue the trend of stockings after their first meeting but she was instead dressed in an outfit that was a pastel blue form-fitting athletic suit with a cropped grey hoodie top. She had on visor sunglasses now that the sun was up at full force after the fierce rain in the morning.

"Yoritomo-san!" She said as she flashed a big grin at her. "You know, when you said that we'll meet up again, I never imagined that you'd pick this spot. Not complaining, of course."

There's a pause while Ochiba looks a back a little dreamy before she starts- "Yasuki-sama." -and bows politely, although can't hide the fact she was definitely a new found appreciator of the athletic suit.
"I figure you must be used to organizing stuff, organize at your place, organize at the opening, organize at the festival. That's work, and I'd just be one more...good looking, sociable, outgoing piece of work. But if I organize it all you have to do is arrive and enjoy, if only for an hour or two."

Grinning back.
"Not that we'll be sitting back and relaxing all the way, there's a bit of a hike ahead. Stretch the legs, enjoy the view...and the reward for a successful completion? Well, at the very least there will be fine Mantis drink to go with fine Mantis company."

[Yasuki Ayame]

"Oh, no, you don't," she laughed as she waved a dismissive hand, in hopes that Ochiba didn't have to fully bow politely to greet her. "You don't have to be so formal around me, Yoritomo-san."

She would close the distance with her, walking up so that she could stand beside Ochiba, all while rubbing her shoulder next to hers. "Just a mere 'Yasuki-sama' is fine, for now. Maybe we can talk about Ayame-sama later, if you can do even better. I very much appreciate the forward thinking, Yoritomo-san. I don't think something like this would have so easily made it into my schedule if it were up to my sister."

"Aww, a hike?" She offered a momentary pout before leaning close enough so that she could whisper to her. "That takes effort. I thought you were about to make my workload easier just now. Do you think I could convince you to carry me all the way to the site and cut to the drinking, hm?"

"Oh, no, you don't," she laughed as she waved a dismissive hand, in hopes that Ochiba didn't have to fully bow politely to greet her. "You don't have to be so formal around me, Yoritomo-san."

She reached out and gave the bicep flex an appreciative pat before bursting out in laughter, enough to travel a bit in their surrounding area. "Nice pitch, okay, you sold me. And please, not like I was actually going to make you carry me up a mountain. I'm a governor but not a princess."

"Oh yes, born ready. Our first stop should be about a third of the way up, where the path switchbacks from the first viewing area. Please." Gesturing forward. "Set the pace, you'll find I am good for anything!"

While Mount Jinsei was less paraded as an attraction, there were some wooden signs that indicated where they could go. There was a warning about approaching the potential territorial Jimen Tori, especially ones with nests. "I think you were the jacuzzi type. You're missing a lot of local onsen if you still do a penthouse."

Ayame performed a rather exaggerated stretch of her arms and legs before she started on her hike. She did rather clue in, or correctly assumed the appreciation of her clothing of choice. Why miss the chance to flaunt it when she still had her hike partner's attention?

"Is that so?" Ayame chuckled as she started walking forward to set the pace, turning behind her slightly to see if Ochiba kept up with her sub-brisk pace on the dirty road. "When I served on Naraku, we had a bunch of tight spaces too. It was on a planet with all of the buildings needing layers of shielding and controlled environments, you can build so far on a Jigoku world. But tell me about your experience, where did you come from Yoritomo-san? What makes Yoritomo-san...Ochiba-san."

She dropped the formality, she was just going to use her given name and nobody was going to stop her.

“My family is of little consequence.” Pausing, then frowning slightly. “I… will say they only joined the Mantis Clan shortly before my birth.”
Ochiba’s expression flattens a bit and she walks on quietly for a few moments.

“But, I was raised a Yoritomo by Yoritomo, and I’m some of the best we’ve ever produced! Although don’t ask any of my sensei about it. I trained as a bushi, spent some time in the fleet… had some differences of opinion and then joined a salvager crew.”

Her usual confidence returning
“Captain saw what I was about and promoted me and I’ve been flying high for ever since. Going to get my own ship soon and then the galaxy better watch out.”
Looking over
“I think a little less illustrious a lineage than yours.”

My father was an official around the islands of the Tango provinces, a governmental fixture, before he climbed his way to being governor after marrying my mom. So the ruling lineage isn't so lengthy as you'd think, but we are very much Tango province in blood. Again, not a princess or anything," she winked at her.

The two pass a few lizards sunning themselves on the side of trees and there’s a sound of flapping wings from deeper in the undergrowth as a startled bird takes off. They were close to the first viewing point now.

“It’s cool that you have that connection to a place. I don’t really… I mean- What is that like, what does it feel like?”

She would lift her shade slightly to see the lizards in the distance before getting a sense that they weren't the type, shade, or maturity that was going to charge at them anytime soon. Reaching into her bag, she would take out a bottle of Shiawase Spring water by Uomoto Co and open it to take a few sips.

"...I don't know...You mean being governor?" She said at first as her eyes seemingly looked at the horizon, wondering if she would find the answers there or if her rule was supposed to bestow her with an ancestor's soul that would change her from within. "Overwhelming, at first. It's a far different job than commanding a squad. Not harder, different. I almost forgot how relaxing life was here at first, but it's like being back on an old bike. This place can take me anywhere."

"I'm still pretty new at this, admittedly," she smirked before glancing off for a moment to the direction of the sun, not at it to be clear. "So consider this my rookie year, I don't plan to change anytime soon. Maybe there's just something about the vibe of the island and being back home that makes me in such a good mood around here. Life it just too short for bad company, you know?"

As Ayame hydrates (don't forget to hydrate kids!) the two arrive at the lookout spot with a sweeping view of the sheer drop and then the gleaming sapphire waters.
"I can't really tell if you're doing a good job as Governor or not, I could tell you if you were a good ship's captain, but unless you feel a burning desire to go a salvaging that's probably not gonna happen anytime soon."

Two small mats are suspended from a nearby tree along with a cooler hung away from the reach of any would be snacking creatures. Looking very pleased with herself Ochiba starts setting up, with the mats providing a dry spot to kneel and enjoy the food alongside a selection of spicy snacks.

"But I can tell you're trying to do a good job, you're trying new things and your people like you. Reckon that counts as much for a governor as for a captain. Now-" Rubbing her hands together with glee. "-our first stop, only a short one but I brought in some Mantis classics here. We have Karamucho spicy hot chili potato sticks, some New Kalani Spicy Seaweed Sheets and of course, Osano Wo Reach's own Masta Bhujia, those dried chick peas pack a punch. All this is just to whet the appetite of course and clear your senses for the drink ahead."

Two bottles of chilled water are also placed nearby.

"Oh, that," Ayame said at first when she realized what she was talking about. Her gaze went around their green and vegetation-rich surroundings, remembering Ochiba's background. She might have taken for granted having a home and even a seat of power waiting for her in this world. "I guess I'm never going to beat the princess allegations now, huh? It feels natural being here, kind of like a futon that's always rolled out and waiting for you. Like you can jump in and just toss the sheets around you. It'll always be warm and comfortable. That said, you also find yourself missing it when you're away. You can distract yourself easily enough, but that thought kind of comes creeping in, maybe like withdrawal."

She paused for a moment to look up and snickered out in the open. "...yeah, take my bed analogy as you will, not because I have bed on the brain or some sort of bed tossing expert, Ochiba-san. More of a bed appreciator."

Ayame gave Ochiba a salute as she talked about being captain before cracking a grin. "The province isn't burning, or rather, I'm not accidentally venting and crew into the void. So I must be doing a pretty good job so far. I just know that I have such a great and wonderful place here, people should really come more often and see it for themselves. If it helps me more than stay afloat around here, that would be great. At the very least, I can't be outdone by those nudists in the Hachikoku Province. They aren't even that hot!"

Ayame smiled broadly with her hands on her hips as she looked at the impressive setup. "Just when I thought I wasn't going to be wined and dined..." she snickered and winked at her. She made herself at home as she walked forward and laid on her side leisurely on one of the mats, even if the mat wasn't exactly lengthy for lying.

"There are worse things than being a princess...like being a bed appreciator. But I understand why such thoughts would make themselves known in my presence."
Ayame gets the double finger guns.
"Still, having a place like that, it sounds cozy. Maybe I'll look into it, though this might also be one of those things money can't buy." the worst kind of things.

Ochiba then does her best to find a resting position that isn't going to involve her lying down and staring across at Ayame, and so ends up sitting cross legged and holding out bowls for the Governor to sample one by one in a very exaggerated 'serving the princess' gesture.

"I'm sure you are more than capable of outdoing any nudists, Yasuki-sama." Once Ayame has started snacking Ochiba munches a few as well, her eyes starting to water and nose running slightly as the heat accumulates.
"This does take me back to the dojo though, used to love these. Can you feel it clearing your sinuses out?"

Ayame gets the double finger guns.
"Still, having a place like that, it sounds cozy. Maybe I'll look into it, though this might also be one of those things money can't buy." the worst kind of things.

Ochiba then does her best to find a resting position that isn't going to involve her lying down and staring across at Ayame, and so ends up sitting cross legged and holding out bowls for the Governor to sample one by one in a very exaggerated 'serving the princess' gesture.

"Well.." she said as she looked up coyly before grinning. "I only imagine that you had such thoughts first. Not thinking too highly of myself or anything."

Okay, maybe lying on the mat and treating the mountain like her own personal living room (as much as she had a right to) might have been a little much. After a moment of lounging, she would get a little serious and sit up in a cross-legged fashion, patting away of grass and dirt she picked up.

There was the urge to playfully smack Ochiba over the serving gesture, but she wasn't going to horse around when there were snacks on the line. She would take a good handful, like it was some fried peanuts that she could pick up from the corner store. It wouldn't take long for her to learn her lesson when she blinked twice and let up an abrupt coughing fit as the dusting of spices was enough to overwhelm her. Bailing out, she would roll over to fetch a bottle of water.
