[Day 1 LA] Automotive Acquaintances

[Kaiu Ryosei]

Ryo had gotten ready at home and decided to walk to the event this evening. The formal kimono he wore was light enough that the humidity from the days earlier rain wasn't too much of a bother and the evening was promising to be rather refreshing.

He could theoretically afford a place in the harbor so he was closer to work but he had decided that he liked the larger home he was able to afford in the residential area as it gave him ample space for a home workshop for his more experimental endeavors.

It did mean that for big events like these he was a bit further away but the commute was a price he was willing to pay. Besides he had made a few friends and acquaintances in the area which was nice.

On his way he decided to stop in on just one of these, a fellow Kaiu that had at least decided to remain friendly despite his reputation within the family.

Ryosei walked up to business she owned and looked around seeing for any sign that the mechanically inclined crab was currently toiling away on something.

It doesn’t take too long to find sign of the Kaiu woman, as she has a box in-hand from a very recent delivery, with another one by the front door to the waiting lobby still sits. Nagisa juggles the box around as she opens the door, pausing as she hears someone approach.

Turning her attention to her guest, she offers a small wave with the hand not currently carrying the box. “Welcome. How’s business treating you?”

Of course, she quickly gets the door open so she can at least stash the box inside. Juggling it around is not very conductive to catching up with kin, after all.

He smiles and bows to the fellow Kaiu "good afternoon Nagisa-san." He said with a cheerful smile. He liked visiting Nagisa's shop, they weren't best friends or anything closer to acquaintances, but it reminded him a bit of home.

He approaches and picks up the other box ready to carry it inside for her. "Business has been alright, kind of slow but that's what happens when you work in custom fleshcraft." He chuckled "met a very interesting mantis earlier, had you heard the rumors of mantis bio electrical tattoos?" He asked raising an his eyebrows at her.

Nagisa bends over to pick up the second box. Standing up, the mechanic tilts her head off to the side in thought. “Interesting Mantis? She wasn’t overly loud and flashy was she? If so I might know who you’re talking about.”

With the door open still, it’s easy for Nagisa to drop the box inside now. “As far as the tattoo question. Nope, haven’t heard of them. Do they like… Glow in the dark? Kind of like those little stars you could stick on your ceiling as a kid.”

He pauses having the box taken from him with a shrug and then thinks "uhhh I don't know it flashy is the word....but certainly very.....mantisy? Loud definitely." He confirmed "Ochiba was her name, came by wanting me to look at her fleshcrafts."

He perked back up an excited energy bubbling up "but yeah they're real! And no not just cosmetic though they do look awesome but they are functionally tattoo tasers. The technology is fascinating, I haven't seen anything like it. They store a power supply next to the heart that charges it and they tie it in with the wearer's nervous system so it can be activated by thought at which point the electricity runs along the tattoo and zap any one you punch or hit with like a metal pip or sword I would imagine. It's incredible, there's so much we could learn from studying it, bio electrical potential, nerve activation and control. Mantis technology might be more advanced than we ever thought before!" He was rambling a bit but the words spilled from his mouth with excitement, he was practically bouncing as he spoke. He seemed to catch it at the end and pulled back a bit reining in the volatile energy with a slight blush on his cheeks.

He cleared his throat "but uh yeah it was a really cool discovery."

“Huh. That’s a surprisingly intricate biomechanics system. For Mantis, I guess. I don’t really associate them with that kind of thing.” She taps her chin in thought, just thinking about having her whole nervous system being messed with was both a bit scary and a bit exciting. “I guess with the risks involved with a procedure like that, you’d kind of have to be a Mantis.”

“Also, yeah, same Mantis. She stopped by my shop yesterday and wanted me to modify her rental to go faster. I fear for anyone that meets her on the road. Or parking area. She likes to take up no less than three spots.”

He nodded excitedly "she let me scan her and I got a ton of details about how it worked. How it connected and gathered energy. It was incredibly intriguing. I promised I wouldn't give up the specs to the clan but I might use it for some personal work that I'm doing." He had saved the scans after all but he planned to make good on his word.

He chuckled about the car bit and nodded "aye that sounds like her. Did you do it? I didn't take you as one to do work on rental cars, guess it doesn't hurt you either way. Either the rental gets a nice tune up or she's on the hook for anything they don't like."

“I’ll work on them if they have permission from the rental company. Which she did. I do refuse people that don’t have the proper documentation, so you’re right to think that.” Nagisa tilts her head to the side, she supposed she is a bit of a rule follower.

“So, getting that uptick of customers with all these guests coming in, huh? I’ve been getting a good few new faces.”

He shrugged "eh getting an uptick I suppose. Most tourists don't come to the planet and think "hm well maybe I'll get a new arm while I'm on planet." He chuckled. "Business in general is good though, I have no complaints. Really the whole thing just means some new faces in town which is never a bad thing."

"You planning on going to the event tonight? See who's who among the new faces?"

“Eh, not really. I still need to fill out the paperwork on my end for those rentals that people needed worked on. I’ve been dreading it.” There’s a joking quality to the Kaiu woman’s voice as she opens up the door fully. “Wanna come in and sit?

"sure!" He said with a smile as he followed her into the shop proper.

He shook his head and smiled at Nagisa "You really should get out more. Hang out with people more than cars, tonight will be a good time. You don't even have nasty rumors keeping you from the social gatherings." He was being a bit hypocritical, this would be the first social function he made an appearance at in easily months, but do as I say not as I do and all that.

[Kaiu Nagisa]

“Hey, now. I always socialize with my customers.” Nagisa motions towards the seats in the lobby while she moves the boxes by the door to behind a counter. “Plus, I fully plan to going out tomorrow. Extended lunch and all that.”

He smirked and gave her a look "Nagisa socializing with customers is hardly the same thing." He shook his head amused "but hey I'm not your sensei if you're being social enough for you that's all that matters I suppose."

He relaxed into the chair and let out a long breath. Relaxing felt nice after being fairly busy.

[Kaiu Nagisa]

“Well, I should eventually stop by Honoka’s new restaurant… We both have been so busy.” Nagisa rubs at the back of her neck, before popping it back into place. “I’ll get out and socialize more, but give me a few days to catch up on my work. I can’t afford to get buried under all the paperwork portions. Filling out orders, that kind of shit.”

"we're all a bit busy but good to make a bit of time now and again." He smiled and then looked thoughtful for a moment "well you know, if you ever need an extra hand around here if you're swamped or something you can give me a call. I might specialize in fleshcraft but I promise I'm no such under the hood."

[Kaiu Nagisa]

“Thanks for the offer. It’s less the under the hood things I’m falling behind on, though.” Nagisa sighs, motioning towards some papers stacked on the desk. “The rental places around here need me to fill out so much stuff whenever one of their vehicles is repaired here.”

He grimaced a little at that "weeeeeelll I guess I could also try and help out with that if it's too much. Though I am far less proficient with a pencil than I am a wrench." He says with a little laugh.

"Seriously, you were one of the first nice people I met when I first got here. Plus you've never asked about any of the rumors or pried into my past. I almost feel like I owe ya."

“I don’t do the whole prying into people’s business. Not my style. And rumors half the time are just hot air bored people keep afloat.” Sighing, Nagisa leans against the desk. “Thanks for offering, regardless. Maybe I should pick up like some kind of apprentice or something.”

"yeah? Looking to be Kaiu Sensei?" He said chuckle long lightly again "I doubt I'll ever move into like teaching or any of that. I've got too much going on half the time and any time an apprentice saves you in paper work they cost you in fucking something up that you gotta fix." He said in an amused tone thinking of his own instruction, he had been told he was an exceptional student yet he had been reamed out for various mistakes regularly.

“Eh, less full on sensei, more mentor kind of deal. I think I could take on one, but I don’t quite have room in here for any more than that.” Nagisa shrugs.
