(D1, EA) A challenge is issued

[Yasuki Taraka]

The rain had been quite heavy that morning, but it had passed during the lunch hour. Still, there was something still in the air. As if the storm had been the herald for something even more dangerous. Like how you heard the thunder before you saw the lightning.

Yasuki Taraka was checking in on the shop. She had a fair amount of leeway in how she spent her time, her duties did include being an ambassador for the brand, so time spent not in the shop was time spent trying to secure more business. Fish did not leap into your cooking pan after all. Still, she had to make an appearance every once in awhile, just to make sure everything was running smoothly and Yasuki Kaira wasn't here messily devouring the staff.

The door opened, and a gust arrived followed by thunderous footsteps. "Yasuki-saaaan." Yoritomo Yakura greeted the owner in a very friendly manner. "What is this I hear of a competition you organized? And how can I win it?"

Taraka bowed in a friendly manner as well.

"Ah, so we're doing a leaderboard for people who duel with our Flying Battle Carps, Yoritomo-sama. The competition is running for the next eleven days. The full rules are listed over there, but the basics are simple. First you buy one of our drones, I'd recommend one of the Legend class if you're serious about winning. Then you register here at the store, and then you go about dueling with other enthusiasts in the designated areas. You send me the results and we'll update the leaderboard here. In the end, the top five ranked pilots will win a prize." she explained.

Yakura slapped down her Platinum Silver Carp card. "Legends it is then. You make fine machines, better to crush the opposition with." She smirked, and eyed the stock. "Bring me your prettiest drone, I want blue and green colors, and a dragon banner naturally."

Taraka nodded.

"It'll be done, Yoritomo-san, and if you find yourself in need of someone to challenge, I'd be happy to fight against you." she said, as the staff got the Yoritomo's order ready and the Name Yoritomo Yakura was added to the leaderboard.

While that was taken care of, Taraka made time for small talk.

"Actually, I was wondering, Yoritomo-san, if there might be additional opportunities for our businesses to support each other. It seemed like it might be a topic that could be beneficial to us both."

"Ohoho, bold are we Yasuki-san? Great, I shall vanquish you first."

Letting the competitive spirit be overtaken by the greedy spirit, Yakura changed modes. "Oh? I can see the potential. Want me to run the betting angle perhaps?"

Taraka nodded.

"The thought had occurred to me, Yoritomo-san. Obviously, the store running the competition, it'd be improper for me to be involved with it directly. I wouldn't even be competing, but well, it's a new competition, and I thought throwing my hat into the ring might inspire some to challenge me. Then again, if you're going to set proper odds, you'd need some insight into the skill of the competitors, yes?" she reasoned.

The purchase was all wrapped up for the Yoritomo.

"But you've also got a boat. You might consider hosting an event or two featuring the duels. Dueling over the ocean would be more risky, since unless you were very careful, your banner or even worse your Carp could sink beneath the waves. But danger is a spice that some crave, no?"

Yakura pondered, her hands on her chin. "I would say we would need at least some preliminary bouts to assess things before people can properly bet...as for events like..." She shrugged. "We can accomodate something. The deck is usually off limits, but I'm happy to host such an occasion." She thought some more on it.."Hm...perhaps even some light entertainment during it, we shall have to see."

Taraka nodded.

"All fine points, Yoritomo-san. I enjoyed your hosting of the chamber of commerce meeting. Do you have any events planned in the next couple weeks? It'd be fun to attend a party aboard your ship." she asked.

Yakura pondered. "Nothing specific, I am sure we can agree on a specific dateand I can accomodate. Would you prefer something int he afternoon, or perhaps at night? Visibility might be worse, unless we up put some giant lights on the drones."

Taraka considered that proposal.

"Hmmm, lights, or perhaps fluorescent paint?" she suggested. "Either will pose an additional challenge for pilots, but should look quite unique. You could even give the event a name based on it. 'Duels in the Dark'?"

"It was a dark and droney night...."

Yyyyyeah, that waasn't it.

"Hm, sounds interesting. I'll check the weather forecast see what would be the best time." She picked up a controller. "So, how does one play this exactly?"

"Well, you attach a banner to the underside, and the goal is to sever your opponent's banner with the rotor while keeping your own. Two stick controls for the drone. The left one moves the carp up and down when you push it up and down, or spins it left or right if you push it left or right. The right one makes it go forward, backwards and left to right as you input that." she explained.

She gave a quick demonstration of how sensitive the controls were.

"They can move pretty fast, but you have to be careful, the connecting string for the banner if very thin, so if you're not, it's easy to lose your own banner if you cut too close to a tree or other obstacle.

Yakura checked, and attached her banner to the underside...sneakily trying to make it stick out as little as possible. She then grabbed the controller and started moving it up and down.

"Oh, oh nice! I am going to call you....VELVET THUNDER!" She boomed inside of the shop. "Want to have a go Yasuki-san?"

Taraka grinned.

"I'm always up for a challenge, Yoritmo-san. Are you up for a quick trip to somewhere we can properly duel?" she asked with a node to the local ordinances sign. "We could legally fight here, but it'd be like dueling under a kotatsu. To get the best effect, you want some sky to work with."

She followed her Yasuki companion.

"So, is it time to duel yet Yasuki-san?" Yakura seemed quite eager to throw her mettle into battle. Or something.

Taraka unpacked her drone, and with a few flicks of the controls, the carp launched skyward, trailing the banner for Flying Battle Carps.

"It is, indeed, time to duel Yoritomo-san. Come at me!" she challenged.

Pass 1: 29, because genius I am I keep forgetting to add the Legend bonus to the roller.

Yakura maneuvered awkwardly, but cute flailong a successdul does not malke.

"Ah, this round is yours Yasuji-san!"

The battle was all too brief. But Taraka appreciated that the Yoritomo put all of her enthusiasm into the project, even when it was clear it was not her pastime of choice.

She bowed politely.

"You are an honorable opponent, Yoritomo-san. I hope you enjoyed this meeting and will enjoy all the clashes you have yet to come." she offered.

"Bah I will get you next time!" She raised her fost.

"Velvet Thinder shall have her revenge!"

Suddenly she changed attitude immediately.

"Two days from noe then, right? Let me get some marketing going."
