Ami was dressed sharply for "working" in the kitchen. Her coat clung to her form tightly, cinched at her waist to accentuate curvature of herself. The top two knots of her black chef's coat undone, allowing a scandalous tease of pale flesh plunging to a deep valley.
"You." She was curt, addressing one of the line cooks. Handing them her koku account card. "Go to the market. Get whatever is fresh. Here is the list." Her gaze then looked to another cook. "And you. Go... forage something. If you find any ramps or interesting wild vegetables that is fine."
Then Ami found the lead cook. "I expect excellence. Full Fine dining. Hot food on hot plates, cold food on cold plates. Get to work." And that was the extent of it. The Spideress would simply walk between stations, watching the little people doing all the manual labor.
Two dishes prepared for the judges.
The first dish, from the bounty of the fish markets. "Grilled Jade Cephalopod, served with a rocket emerald salisina, white beans, and wild foraged Obsidian daikon." The lead cook presented. "Served on toasted milk bread."
The second dish. With time of the essence, the team used a pressure cooker to attempt to quickly braise the tough cut of meat, but unfortunately, it was difficult for the judges to enjoy. Luck simply was not on their side. "Braised Oxen Short Rib, served with a pungent anchovy and caper seasoned tomato sauce, foraged yamagobo, and microgreens. The oxen was braised in Shinseiki Dark Lager, to accentuate the earthiness of the dish."

Yakura trusted in herself, in her luck, and Daikoku1S special attention in herself.
"Atten-----tion! We are going overwhelm our enemy! With numbers! Like a proper army!" So she set forth, and the experienced heimin started to make dishes.
And dishes.
And dishes.
And a cook fainted from the exertion.
There was a lone dessert.
Seeing time go by, Yakura increased the heat under the tuna, to make it cook faster. Obviously.
The whole wait staff and a lone usher had to brign out all the dishes. Some of it was even edible!

Re: [Day 6 - Early Evening] Bid Event: Jade Chef
Itsuka was by far not a chef. That didn't mean she didn't like food - and the challenge of the day definitely reminded her of some attempts at creative cooking, way back when.
Somehow, the stress and the rush got her more interested, rather than less.
Just standard ingredients wouldn't do, of course. If there was one thing she knew that might come in handy here, it was her knowledge (not incredible, but decent at least!) of the areas around Nakahama, and even the island as a whole.
She first went mostly with local staples - and seafood would be an obvious choice. Tango Tuna, Diamond Shrimp, and some other local fare. But would that be enough? What could they add that might help?
Seaweed could work.... but that was still not enough.
She reminded her first meeting with Ochiba, at the Hanei tower. Jungle root! Its very particular flavour could work well - or it could end in disaster. But carefully, along with some perilla and a good pairing of local sake....
.... she looked at her team cooking, blinked twice. It wasn't as if she had much of a clue what she was doing here. But they went along with it, nodded, seemed confident. And they probably knew what they were doing!
In the end, the "Undersea Jungle Soba" was smelling really good, and it even looked good!

For the second dish, she decided to go with something based directly on one of her favourite places here... and perhaps a bit wilder.
Mt Jinsei. What particular things did it have? Very particular things?
Dreamweed. It wasn't as strong as Jungle Root, but its unique scent, and its sweet-and-tangy taste could work well to bring out details in other ingredients. But... which? What else could Mt Jinsei offer?...
.... snails. From the lagoon. Not the kind of thing most find tasty. But she'd tried some once, at Kiki's sugestion - properly cleaned and braised, of course.
It would definitely be a challenging dish - to make, and maybe to try. And the first attempts ended up with a stronger smell than it should - too much Dreamweed? Snails undercooked?
.... whatever it was, her team eventually managed to overcome it.
The "Mt Jinsei Snail Ramen" ended up looking surprisingly tasty - although the snails were very obviously there.
The harmonisation suggested by her team, a yuzu-based shochu cocktail, might offer some encouragement... but would that be enough to make even the touchiest around brave enough to try the snails??

Re: [Day 6 - Early Evening] Bid Event: Jade Chef
A cooking show? Well, Hikari isn't so sure about all that. This...was not in his wheelhouse. However, he did know quite a bit about directing people and he knew that he liked food...so what the hell, why not give it a try? If anything, he knew he could at least try to make a good impression, even if he wasn't a professional.
It took him forever to find the right fresh ingredients for the meal however. He had been inspired by the Rainbow of Pain that a certain Yasuki had taken him to and with that inspiration, he began his hunt. Eventually, he would find a market that was able to provide him with the exact thing he was looking for: A prime cut of volcano lizard! He also sought out some of the mushrooms that grew on the mountain, heat resistant and all.
Hikari knew that he wasn't going to have time to make multiple dishes, nor did he have enough volcano lizard, so he was going to have to make this one singular dish count for all that he could. And so he directed the chefs in the kitchen, doing his best to delegate and taste test where he could.
Eventually, he would have the dish presented with a special twist!
He would approach and judges and bow.
"Today, I have for you a cut of prime volcano lizard, lightly seared and slow roasted in a spicy vegetable sauce. It comes with a selection of mushrooms from the mountain to enhance the umami flavor, as well as a reduction of the vegetable sauce it was roasted in combined with some horseradish mustard."
He would also present a bottle of sweet sake to go along with the dish, lightly pouring it over the volcano lizard and then he would have it alit with flame, presenting a lightly sizzling cut of meat.
"Volcano lizard resists even this flame well, but you may let the sear on the cut finish as you desire and extinguish with the sauce at your convenience...thank you!"
He would bow once more and take several steps back.

Re: [Day 6 - Early Evening] Bid Event: Jade Chef
The event is closed.
Yasuki Umiko would, unfortunately, step away from the judging early on. However, the show must go on!
The kitchens at Granite were working overtime, especially with a constantly rotating cast of head chefs and their cooking team. It's perhaps the busiest the restaurant has ever been! Many head chefs were able to craft rather unique and exquisite dishes, many that could have become a headline of any banquet meal! Many would have passed on the merit of taste alone. However, only the line-up of food that scores the best in technical skill, taste, showmanship, and innovation could qualify.
There was silence that descended on the kitchen as the judges made their decision. It was tempting to eat all of the dishes, but they could only taste a sample and make their decisions solely on that...
The winner of the Jade Chef was Shiawase Island local, Utaku Itsuka! Undersea Jungle Soba was something that could become a new classic in the province, but her Mount Jinsei Snail Ramen! That would become a conversation piece for weeks to come, the overlooked snails shooting up in popularity. Some say it might even topple jelly ramen* as the regional dish.
*Jelly ramen is tonkatsu ramen with a splash of fruit jelly as an extra topping. It was made possible during an odd earthquake in Tenjin Town when some jelly fell on top of a bowl of ramen. In the aftermath of the earthquake, a hungry local gave it a try and found it delicious**!
**It's an acquired taste, but some locals are stubborn in saying that it's delicious because it's a regional dish, pride basically.
Utaku Itsuka gets +0.7 Glory with 31 Cuisine Points and is granted the Jade apron!
Bayushi Senshuken get +0.5 Glory with 30 Cuisine Points (with 5 Raises)
Agahsa Sorato gets +0.3 Glory with 30 Cuisine Points
