The Temple of Light sits atop the high hills just on the outskirts of Tenjin Town. The building is an old concrete warehouse that has long been converted for its use and has been retrofitted with a large peaked gable roof. There are some obvious signs of wear by age and the elements, patched with fixes that are meant to be temporary. The musty interior is unlike any other traditional temples, the main chamber of worship is made up of several rows of seating with a triangular idol on an elevated front stage.
This temple caters exclusively to a translation of an old gaijin-based religion called Lavoie. This religion had found its way to the shores of Rokugan during the successful gaijin incursion of the Empire. Even long before the Empire's venture into the stars, the religion had long faded into obscurity with history. However, in the last century, there was a resurgence of its worship. The religion has seen some popularity among the heimen and even some Yasuki behind closed doors.
Lavoie revolves the worship of three deities based on three elements: the Sun, the Sky and the Sea. The Sun represents ambition and courage, where just souls ascend upon death. The Sky represents the mortal realm, where justice and destiny are found. The Sea represents desire and the unknown, where lost souls descend to a realm-like purgatory. It is up to each worshipper to balance those elements within themselves and achieve equality through devotion. While these elements are not meant to be interpreted literally, some anthropological scholars suspect they might have been seen as such in the civilization's feudal ages.
