D1 Expecting LA - Does the Horse Drone On?

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Suh-Hyun smiled lopsidedly embarrassment evident. "Ah a poor jest on my part. My apologies."

She let out a sigh, "Well to be completely honest, drones don't interest me that much. On a personal level, the competition just isn't my thing. I think the business is interesting though, and a remarkably clever idea. Reworking a few war weapons into a fun game. It's easy to imagine how it could cultivate enthusiasts. Both pilot and tinkerer, err assuming you let your players modify their drones."

[Yasuki Taraka]

Taraka nods.

"Modifications are certainly acceptable, with a few exceptions, Shinjo-san. We can't take back drones that have been modified for safety reasons. You cannot add cameras or any other recording equipment or....well there's a whole long list of restricted items legally, but it boils down to, 'Don't use these to spy on people' and 'Don't use these to harm people or property.' Along with 'Don't bother people in their daily lives with these."

She shrugged a bit.

"You know how it is, you have to lay things out clearly in multiple cases because some people can't just enjoy fun things for the fun things they are. Some kids really thought it'd be a funny idea to buzz the governor's mansion and now there's a whole chapter's worth of laws restricting that."

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"Kids and young adults do silly things. I don't believe every rule is the result of someone doing something stupid, but a lot are."

Suh-Hyun nodded, "I suppose anyone modifying their drone wasn't planning on returning it anyway. Sounds like some one pretty deep on the hobby. Hmm have you thought about facilitating player exchanges? Let the people who love to fly interact with the ones who love to tinker?"

[Yasuki Taraka]

Taraka tilted her head at that one.

"Hmm, I had considered officially facilitating such exchanges, Shinjo-san, no." she admitted. "I mean there's nothing stopping people from doing that on their own, and they know who is competing based on the leaderboard. I'm not quite sure I see the benefit, but I'd be interested in hearing your pitch."

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"Well this hobby appeals to two types of people. Those who fly and those who build. Some people want to be the best but aren't interested enough in drones to learn the tech skills to really fine tune their machine. And some people are really more interested in seeing how much tuning they can get and stay legal, but maybe don't have the skill to really push their modifications to the limit. Maybe getting a board or promoting a team tournament some time." She nodded, "Honestly you could attract some artists wanting to test their creativity painting a new medium. Everyone loves an awesome paint job. Really just help build out your community."

"Granted I am only passingly familiar with the ideas behind running a store, let alone a niche hobby one like this one." She grins, "Just trying to help out."

[Yasuki Taraka]

This earns a small shrug from the Yasuki.

"Doesn't mean your ideas are any less valuable, Shinjo-san. I can certainly pass them along and run the numbers for those kinds of events." she offered sincerely.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Suh-Hyun let out a sigh and tapped the battered drone she had first looked at, "How much is this? I won't promise I'll be that much of a competitor but at least I'll give it a try, so I can at least recommend it on good faith to others."

[Yasuki Taraka]

That earned her a more genuine smile.

"For you, Shinjo-san, just four koku. And it comes with your choice of banner colors. We can either letter it for you, or leave it blank if you want to customize it yourself." she said.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"I'm not much of an artist so... I'll leave it the seller's choice on banner." Suh-Hyun studied the drone and then looked out the window at her bike. "Well, there's a problem. I don't suppose you deliver do you. Ah ha ha..."

[Yasuki Taraka]

Taraka nods.

"Not usually, but I'm happy to help you out with that Shinjo-san. We don't want you trying to ride and fly at the same time after all." she offered.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"I would rather not find myself in front of a magistrate for what sounds like something illegal." She replied, "So then what is the protocol with this thing anyway? Is it like that children's card game where you loudly call out your rival and duel in the streets?" It was mostly a jest, mostly.

"Oh! One last question, not related to this...but there is a Fancon coming up here yes?"

[Yasuki Taraka]

Taraka chuckled at that.

"That's Bayushi-san's style certainly. It was a bit silly, a bit fun, and held on a mostly deserted beach. It really depends on the individual, some people imagine a whole story and narrate it to the fight, some people just want to talk while the duel goes on...and before and after, and some get so focused on the duel they won't say a word. Go with what feels right for you Shinjo-san." she offers.

She nods at the question

"Hai, three days from now if I remember the event calendar correctly." she confirms. "What fandom...."

Then she remembered the helmet.

"What are you looking forward to at Fan con, Shinjo-san?"

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"Classified until the day." She grinned at that and waggled a finger, "However, if you know anyone that sells those weird little cat ear headbands and someone handy enough to hack one that would be of great help to me. But planning on going as well I assume?"

[Yasuki Taraka]

"Of course. You go where the customers are, and fans are terrrifc customers." she said, packing up the Shinjo's purchase.

"And if I have a little fun myself, that's just a pleasant little bonus, ne?"

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

"Work and play," Suh-Hyun nods, "Clever. Well I have taken enough of your time. Oh I am at the Unicorn Embassy if you need to make contact with me or anyone asks." She steps toward the door, "Ah, thanks for the delivery I hadn't planned on flying it but balancing a drone sized package and driving is bad enough."

[Yasuki Taraka]

Taraka nods.

"Understandable, Shinjo-san. Just because someone enjoys thrill seeking doesn't mean they seek to add risk to every waking moment of their life. Enjoy your ride in the city wherever it may take you, and your carp will be waiting for you at the embassy. Thank you for your custom." she said and offered a bow to see the Unicorn off.

[Shinjo Suh-Hyun]

Suh-Hyun returned the bow and slide on her sunglasses. "Take care Yasuki-san."

Hopping onto the little scooter and buckling on her helmet, the Unicorn took off.
