(Expecting) You Sound Ace! [LM, Day 9]

[Yoritomo Ochiba]

"Hmm? Don't be drama-oh shit!"
Ochiba leaps up and simply wraps one arm around the Sparrow's waist and plants her feet firmly behind her.

"We kick its ass is what we do Hitomi-san, ain't gonna let a fish beat us, oh, maybe it's a great shark, now that would be some fun."
Her other hand reaches out and gets smacked by the real, prompting a curse from the Mantis before grumbling she manages to get a hand on it and slow the rotations.

"I got you, you got the fish. We're bringing it in! Just gotta...start reeling." Racking her brain. "Just think on all those Sparrow heroes like uhh...you know the guy...with the thing. And what he'd say if we let ourselves get beaten!"

[Suzume Hitomi]

Hitomi yelps, but only has half a moment to register the arm around her waist amid the relief as her slide toward the water slows. An extra hand at the reel slows it, so the pole bends to the pull instead. Thankfully, it's meant to do that, but the curve looks pretty dramatic as they pull. "Ok...ok...right. We've got this. It's totally not another giant shark, and we'll be fine."

"Who? Um...Suzume Wara, first Sparrow Emerald Champion maybe? Um...not sure what he'd saaaay...." She stumbles back against the Mantis as the pull suddenly pauses, almost missing the moment to reel in some of the slack before whatever's on the other end starts fighting again. "oof...ok, that's probably normal. Definitely not seaweed." The pole bends and dances as the reel is slooowly cranked the right direction.

There's another bit of slack as the fish leaps from the water...maybe that works against other aquatic predators, but here it just offers the samurai on the shore a chance to pull it closer. "Maybe there's a Mantis hero with a more famous line?" she says when she has the breath for it.

"Awww, I was hoping it would be a giant shark! Could get you those teeth right now."
Ochiba has planted herself as firmly as she can, even if it's one heck of a fish pulling against the two.
"I'm sure Wara would have said something like 'Fishing is just like farming, strong arms and strong backs get the job done'. The Great Yoritomo himself woulda said something about being like, the 20 top fisherman in the clan himself, because he was that good. But you know."

She grunts as the fish leaps, giving them both a quick breather and the opportunity to pull in the line.
"Tsuruchi Enko, the famous 2nd fleet admiral once said that a brilliant strategist could win without fighting, but as she was merely good they'd just have to win today. Dunno, if we're brilliant fishers, but we're good enough and we're taking that fish home!"

It was definitely a fight! Long enough to start getting the feel of how the fish would pull, then jump, or try to dart sideways, giving them some slack to work with. Scales flashed silver and gold as it leaped, each time a bit closer. Hitomi pauses at a thought, and almost misses the chance to reel it closer on one of those leaps, but catches it in time. As she braces for it to pull again, she asks. "What do we do when it's here? Jump on it?"

That doesn't sound particularly appealling. But soon enough the Goldentail was dragged to the land, flopping and gasping.

Pause.
"-I take a knife and."
Ochiba kneels down flicks out her emotional support knife and while one hands holds the mighty fish the other efficiently kills said goldentail with minimal blood spray.
"There you go. Gosh, handsome fellah isn't he. Get it makes sense that on a Yasuki world even the fish would be gold."

Holding it up for her.
"You want a photo with it? It's almost a landscape, might look good on your wall?"

[Suzume Hitomi]

Breathing hard, Hitomi finds herself laughing as the Mantis efficiently stabs the largish fish. "A photo? Oh...that's pretty traditional, yes. Hmm...wait, you should be in it too!"

She darts back to the table, setting her holorecorder there, and aiming it toward the water, tapping to set it to show the hologram above as it was recording so they could see as they got into the shot.

Dashing back she adds, "oh yes, I think the original settlers here really liked them, part of why they're a little less common now. But they're considered good luck. And maybe we'll be seeing more of them with all the greatsharks people have been fishing out."

"Um...hold him up by the tail? Her? I admit I can't tell." In the end there's a very standard image of them holding up the fish, bay in the background. One more small record of everyone's time on Nakahama.

"Then I guess it needs cleaning and ice? Do you have anyplace to cook some in that penthouse?"

Just two samurai and their fish prize on a sunny day, maybe the real Nakahama was the friends we made along the way?

“A good omen indeed!” Nodding. “Clearly that bodes well for the days ahead. A golden future… and also in the short term some food.”

Ochiba beams happily for the photo, secretly plotting to slowly overwhelm ‘boring’ landscapes with cool photos of animals defeated in battle.

“Oh, huh well I actually still have a shit load of ice from the party and the sink is pretty big. Yeah, we can put it in there and I’ll find a chef who knows what they’re doing. Your catch so your choice of preparation of course.”

Looking over
“Have I won you over to the joys of fishing then?”

She looks at the holo, tapping to translate it to 2D as well so it can actually be printed out. There's something to the smiles of triumph after fighting that fish in that gives her pause. "I might just have to try fishing more, yeah. I bet the fish aren't as big in the rivers!"
