GM Questions and Requests

Please ask all general
GM questions here.
This thread is also for any potential
NPC requests you may have. Please know that NPC requests are often for NPCs that have either a profile and/or a name. As such, we cannot often provide NPCs when it comes to temple visits, shop buying interactions, or other routine matters. It is often a good idea to have these interactions scheduled an IC day in advance.
All questions related to both Bid Events and Side Events should go to their daily Q&A.
To consolidate all inquiries to the public eye and for GM attention, questions will not be answered on Discord.
Previously asked questions.
Can I replace skill X with skill Y in event Z?
-No.
Can I roll X to improve my roll Y in event Z?
-No.
Does Benten's Blessing apply to the event X. It is not listed?
- No
Does Y apply to X
- If by RAW it does, it does. If not AND if it is not mentioned, it does not.
e.g. Doji Courtier rank 1 allows a Free Raise on all Courtier, Sincerity, and Etiquette rolls. This will apply to ALL Courtier, Sincerity, and Etiquette rolls even if it is not directly mentioned.
e.g. Touch of the Spirit Realms: Sakkaku grants +1k0 to Sincerity (Deceit) rolls. This only triggers IF the roll qualifies for Deceit emphasis. If the event does not list the emphasis, the roll does not qualify for said emphasis and the Touch of the Spirt Realms: Sakkaku does not apply.
I have Prestigious Line advantage. Am I part of the kuge?
No. Lowest of the Kuge are the immediate family of the leaders of each family, like the spouse or child of the Clan Champion.

As sidekicks from the Servant advantage are Heimin (or Eta when specified), are they allow to carry weapons? Limited to peasant weapons perhaps?

Very good question. I have cross-referenced with the equipment types and sheets and noticed a bit of an issue here.
To answer the first question, peasants can carry anything that doesn't have the samurai keyword on it. Even though, without the samurai keyword might get some eyebrows. Peasant type is highly preferred.
Now, the issue with range weapons, many are actually samurai-type and it is also the future. As a result, any servant and heimen must default to using
Ashigaru-grade weaponry. Armed bodyguard servants in most cases. Ashigaru-grade weaponry is more or less -1k0 from the damage dice.
Sidearm: 2k2 Damage Base
Rifle: 2k3 Damage Base

Sorry if it sounds.dumb, but I want to make sure how the dynamic works here. Can players consensually do roll tests for non-event scenes?
Ie. Character A is witholding a truth from Character B. Player A invites Player B to a contested roll so Character B can spot if something is off. The consecuences are narrative and the drama and have no mechanical effect in event scenes.

Yes, this can happen, and I encourage open conversation to facilitate this. Especially when it comes to the spirit of cooperation between players to tell a story. Of course, if there are some conflicting issues that might arise, where a GM would be involved to mediate and/or provide an official framework for how that is resolved.
We trust that players should be aware of what is reasonable. Spamming dice should be avoided (you very likely don't need to roll Etiquette for everything, for example). Rolling up to players for the sole purpose of showing up large dice will not be appreciated, for example. Likewise, is using dice as a form to coerce or force certain results to happen.

The bidding metagame post mentions Void usage for bidding rolls. For bookkeeping purposes, on what day of each session are those rolls considered to take place?

I'm leaving it open for people to determine their day. So, if there's a particularly light day or one where you enjoyed some tea ceremony, you could use that day to do a Bidding Roll. We ask you to note the day (which must be the current day) and the void used, and adhere to the amount of void you have left that day.
You do have until the end of the last day of the session. So you might decide to lock in your rolls earlier to not worry about it later, or wait until the end of the last day to make an informed decision. Once it's the next session, you can't go back to make those rolls.

I suspect I know the answer to this but because of the no rolls on D0 roll I assume nothing happens with kami-pets?

Aha, consider it a free day where your kami-pet is happy!

Shiwahime was planning to rent a motorbike for her vacation but can I rent one from a player, supposing one has a business that can rent?

Kaiu Nagisa's mechanic shop is only for repairs and maintenance, I have been informed. It does not rent motorbikes or cars.

Would it be alright to buy day-pass for Natsuzora's spa in advance... and then make it like "here's a visitor pass for (the duration of the game)?

Yes, it's fine! Day passes can be bought in advance.

Would the Ide Trader path ability 'Brisk Economy' be able to be leveraged with some NPCs to earn Bid Points by acquiring them as Allies, or would that beyond the intended scope of the ability?

I would say that's beyond the scope of that ability. Devotion 1 and a short-term relationship aren't quite enough to bridge that connection.

My goofball build for this character requires me to ask how the GMs interpret the interaction between Elemental Imbalance and the Agasha Shugenja technique. (I suppose this would also be relevant if I needed to throw aggressive spells at someone else who took Wrath of the Kami, but that seems less likely.)
Agasha Shugenja: Elements of All Things – The Agasha understand the interactions of the elements more so than perhaps any other family. When casting a spell, you may spend a Void Point to use a different Ring of your choosing rather than the appropriate Ring for that spell. This spell uses a spell slot for the Ring used to actually cast the spell. You also gain a Free Raise on any spell with the Craft keyword.
Elemental Imbalance: The kami of one element favor you, but so much so that their voices sometimes overpower your will and cause your invocations to achieve results other than what you intended. Only shugenja may take this Disadvantage. Choose an element in which you do not possess a Deficiency. Whenever you cast a spell of this element, you must make a Willpower Trait Roll at TN 15 + 5 per rank of this Disadvantage. If you fail the roll, something disastrous happens. The spell may fail outright, it may target someone altogether different from who you intended, or other effects as determined by the GM.
Does the disadvantage trigger when...
a) I call on my Imbalanced Ring to cast a spell normally belonging to a different element?
b) I call on a different Ring to cast a spell normally belonging to my Imbalanced element?
c) both? (ouch)

B: while the ring and slot used change, for all other purposes, treat the spell as remaining whatever its original element was. This includes not just the Agasha technique, but also Affinity/Deficiency, and anything else similar.

So, to understand well, bid participants must roll their bid rolls and write an according IC post in the Bid Event thread, no?
