If you're cool just grabbing some nerdy-looking guy you don't know to be your navigator, Soratoshi would be fine with that. He can navigate respectably according to the event rules.
Can I get back to you within the day? I'm waiting to see whether I need to do a Scorpion thingy

Weeeell I knew rushed event-writing would cause casualties. Sorry, folks
After seeing our first vict... ahem, courageous challengers, I'm aware the boat event ended up considerably more punishing than I'd like.
A few points have also confused people, so I'll post a clarification on those.
Sorry!
I hope there's still some fun to be had with it!

The every is very cool Itsuka! Event writing is tricky but I think you've captured the idea of the event really well

Event design is hard. There are always tweaks. But you've done good work; maybe you'll run a game sometime?

Work allowing, which is currently a big 'maybe when'
But I'd like to and have discussed that with people (which... I'll need helpers, GMing by yourself is insanely hard and I have mad respect for those who've pulled it off!)!

I was hoping the first two attempts wouldn't hurt your feelings too bad Itsuka, and I really hope that you get more people to challenge it than me and Ahab XD
To be fair, I could have spent void, I could have taken a team. Really what would have helped would have been to make the connection before I started that the 1 Called raise for no effect for skill substitution meant you got double the malfunctions on failure XD
A team on a jet boat probably would have done a lot better.
Still, there's a lot of cool innovations in the event:
1) Offering a route for people who don't have specific relatively niche skill to still participate while allowing those who do have the specific skill to do better because of that
2) Random effect tables instead of simple "You are out of the event if you fail this roll" gates
3) Trying to add some effect for extremely high rolls without disregarding the core raise mechanic.
I just let the dice fall where they may and they took me....wherever XD

Outside of a small group game, I cannot stress that GMing should not be a solo effort, if you're meant to keep sane. This game would be soooo different without the great help of Hatoful! I might have lived in OOC for most of the game and my NPCs would only respond with nods and merely say:
"Greetings, traveller. Nice day today?"
"Hmm? Yeah? Need something?"
"Yes?"
"I used to be a samurai like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee."
"Carry the Fortunes."

Sooo true. And Hatoful is a wonderful co-GM! Speaking from experience.

Awww, I'm very happy to facilitate Boogie's game! I figured every private forum I set up meant one more plot point or interesting NPC post that got to see reality.

Crash time. My availability tomorrow's going to be a bit uncertain - I've got quite a few things on the schedule, culminating in game night (wherein we're resurrecting the World of Warcraft card game and making our fourth run on Black Temple - I'd like to say we're getting closer to beating it each time, but we're actually getting progressively worse). I'll be able to check and post some from my phone, but it may be a touch slow.
For the record, we did much, much worse this time. Pretty soon I think we'll all be starting the fight dead.

I know I mentioned this on Discord, but I adore how...Yasuki this game is. Not just Crab, but specifically very Yasuki. That is something I find fun in Banner, the Family microcosm in the clan environment and stuff.

I'm glad you appreciate it as such! It's like I'm a fan of the family or something! Actually, the Yasuki were my first L5R character's Family. It was kind of funny considering I wanted to play either Crane or Scorpion in my first game, but then the game had hard delegation caps. I did some quick research and went Crab instead, then pretty much my favourite Clan since!

Seconding Yakura's comment about it feeling very Yasuki! Not just Crab, but Yasuki!
The Events seem to have been super-tailored to make things feel very much like it is Yasuki themed, as well as Crab-themed. From Fish Markets to Tsuneo's Shiro, all lots of fun.
Already mentioned in Discord that I've enjoyed the Events that take the mechanics away from the character sheets, and placing everyone equally at the base but allowing for different approaches and tactics (such as the Wargames and the Jade Chef). It's a nice treat!
Wargames have certainly given me ideas for how to handle Events for Battle-interested characters.
