Originally, Shiro Ei wanted the volcano reserved to provide power to the garrison with the potential to expand the Shiro toward the mountain. Of course, they perhaps soon realize that they didn't exactly need all that much power for such a remote military base." She said on the matter. Admittedly, most of the defences here were mostly because of Crab tradition rather than necessity. Any true attack on the Green Carp was bound to come from the void, rather than from land. Shiawase Island's threatening predator count was a smidge less than other settlements, too. "There were potential ideas for an airbase and a larger spaceport in the mountains that didn't quite materialize."

She nodded, continuing on that thought. "I think in recent history, Hotel Nakahama was supposed to tap into the volcano for power. It might have ultimately been wishful thinking on their part if the work on the resort hotel never saw completion."
Sorato listens to the historical anecdote with interest. "So it's not being used for energy right now? Or not for much? Maybe that's another site for the investment your sister's after." He smiles in fire shugenja thinking about volcanoes. "If the island grows, it'll need more power. You're already managing the mountain to prevent eruption damage, so it's an obvious next step. The Agasha Foundries have some really efficient new developments in auto-monitoring that don't require as many shugenja tending the shrines anymore, and--"

The smile turns slightly sheepish. "Pardon me if that's overstepping, Yasuki-sama. I'm a little too used to talking with frontier colony planners, which you're not. And I am probably taking too much of your time on this busy morning."

"And slowly, inextricably we find ourselves drawn back to the topic of music. I'm going to have to take that as a sign that you do not mind talking about it, Kakita-san. Then again, I guess if I'm boring you, I'm sure the Crane have trained you in hundreds of ways to escape a boring conversation at varying degrees of politeness."

She crossed her arms and considered music.

"Avoiding Crane music is like trying to avoid rice at a meal...difficult and fairly pointless. Your clan has practically defined music since the dawn of the Empire. It's a staple."

"Now Crab music, that holds a special place in our hearts. From taiko drumming to the local idol group singing at Koi's latest sale, it will never hit the lyrical precision your songs hit. But they put everything they have into their performance, no matter the difficulties, no matter the imperfections. The emotions of Crane music come from the heart, the Crab's come from the gut. Both powerful, but both unique in how they are." she offered.
"Ha you sound like Naz-kun when he gets that glassy eyed stare before disappearing into the studio for three weeks and emerging with a new hit for us to learn. That's before he starts shouting if we interrupt him, mind you."

The terrors of fish forgotten for now, he downed the rest of his liquid sugar . . . no point calling it a drink.

"You have it right . . . mostly. There are some rare times when we go with the flow and do what we think is right rather than the impeccably rehearsed perfect harmony routine we're trained to. Then it's my role to make sure it still holds together. when Ta-kun gets distracted by his own sparkly butterflies, Naz-kun forgets the rest of us are on stage, Yu-kun gets lost in the dancing rhythms or Tomo-kun gets a touch of stage fright, I'm there to bridge the gap and that's when we have heart and . . . gut in our work."

"Not much, no," Umiko admitted reluctantly with a chuckle, getting the sense that this was an embarrassingly overlooked resource on their part. "You are absolutely right, however. When we're so far from the mainland and surrounded by ocean, we may seem like a colony, in some aspects. If the island grows, likely more people will get settled in either Nakahama City or Tenjin Town, we do have a good resource right at our doorsteps. Actually, one that is viewable from many of our major streets. Perhaps worth bringing up to a few of our locals? I'm not so sure if many of them have considered long-term infrastructure yet."

She gave a glance around the market. Did that Koi-kun just walk away from his post? "...Yes, I should get back to seeing that everyone is where they should be or walking them through the custom, if they want to participate in some of the remaining bids. Please excuse me, Agasha-san, but it has been an enlightening talk."

Umiko would give a quick bow before making herself busy.

The sheer amount of Crane on display was staggering. Gossiping about his band mates? Claiming Crane superiority in all things art while painting himself as the flawless hero? Every time she talked to the Crane, it really reinforced her opinions on them They were pretty, talented, and oh was she glad she wasn't one.

"That's impressive, Kakita-san, it truly is." she said.

She wondered if he heard the words, or just took compliments like plants took sunlight.

She checked her watch.

"Ah, as pleasant as it's been to speak with you Kakita-san, I should really get going. I hope the rest of your stay is both enjoyable and productive." she offered, with a bow.

Once goodbyes were made she'd make her....

(And a big thank you for the scene. Kakita-san.)
