(Expecting) Beating Around the Bushi [Day 8, MM]

Ichitaiyo checked down her scope, to make sure that Ochiba wasn't pulling her hair. She rolled the zoom in, and-

"Well damn, you're right.." and she began to pull out the energy cell off the weapon and discharge the charge on the coils. "Do you practice this kind of marksmanship as well, or you own this weapon as, -how you young'uns would say it- 'a flex'.?"

“Always right, it’s a talent of mine.”
Snorting a little at the question
“I can use it well enough, but it is indeed as we young and hip samurai say ‘flex’, no cap. Most of my fighting is up close and personal and there’s not much use for something like this there. But you can float pumpkins off a boat and have a great afternoon picking them off with the rifle.

She nods approvingly at the weapon safety.

“Guess I don’t get to paintball you again, dang I was looking forward to it.”
Then, starting to smile broadly
“Only one test left. You’ve heard of defensive driving, right?”

"Before we go into that, can I keep the Thunder?" Ichitaiyo rebutted with a dumb smirk, all too aware of the answer.

”Absolutely, if you possess a very large sum of koku you can trade for it.”
The thunder is plucked from the dragon and returned to its constituent parts and the case as Ochiba snickers.

“When you get promoted you can afford your own, there are some decent dragon rifles out there think your mountaineers use, might be worth a look at some point if you’re more hooked on the power. I might be persuaded to donate some weights though, and protein supplements.”

Snickering again Ochiba leads the pair over to the driving course, a long series of interconnected loops and sharp turns in what looked like a simulacrum of a city block.

“So, defensive driving. Easy, basic, boring! Today we’re talking offensive driving. I saw you trying to pop those tires with your pistol like an absolute madwoman, and I loved it. So today we’re gonna practice driving and shooting. And this time I won’t even be behind the wheel, so I don’t want to hear any of that yelling and shouting from when I totally wrecked that guy’s truck.”

Ahead of them is a slightly battered looking and fairly standard sedan of a crab make
“And I figured we’d use something you might actually be driving, also because I don’t want another hotrod wrecked before Nagisa-san fixes my ride up.”

*Driver Mission 1 Flashbacks*

Ichitaiyo just stared at the beat up jalopy, and then at the course, then back at Ochiba. "I. .don't drive much as it is already. What is the exercise here? To just drive through the course?"

“Just drive through? Pffft, nothing useful there. No you’re gonna be driving… and fighting!”

Ochiba hits another button on her communicator and several cardboard cutouts flip up, next to them little mechanical arms start lobbing little kemari balls that would presumably be landing on the windscreen of any vehicle driving through.

“You’re gonna be driving and shooting. We’ll be testing and training your ability to engage in car based combat. And there’s a little extra test at the end too, but not spoiling that quite yet. What do you say?”

“Just drive through? Pffft, nothing useful there. No you’re gonna be driving… and fighting!”

"Is.. Is the car insured? What if I crash during this?" Ichitaiyo asked, worried about having to part with more of her meager wordly possesions.

“Insured? Ichitaiyo-san, I bought it. I am fabulously rich. If you don’t absolutely trash this vehicle within an inch of its life then I will.”

With a supportive grin she gestures to it with a flourish.
“Don’t you worry about that stuff. You just focus on how to be a badass and I’ll smooth over any wrinkles so long as you don’t drive full speed back into the dojo? Mmmhm”

“The fortune has seen fit to bless me with wealth.”
Ochiba replied, very seriously
“And I hope he would see this as an investment.”

Ochiba climbs in the passenger side and manoeuvres the seat until she’s reclined comfortably
“Huh, the previous owner left a pack of crab spicy crackers here. Neat.”

Starting to munch and offering some to the Kitsuki as Ichitaiyo gets the car ready
“You’ll be timed so it’s a trade off, speed vs accuracy. And obviously how close you want to get to the targets vs faster cleaner lines. And there’s one last test at the end so keep those detective eyes sharp.”

((Ooc I’ll try not to over complicate! But call it two options if you’d like to roll:

A defense/reflexes tn 10 to avoid being distracted by the kemari balls (on a fail increase all subsequent Tns by 5) and then the option of either:

1: A driving/agility tn 10 to drive easy, but then a harder tn 20 firearms/reflexes as the shooting is from further away we and more awkward. Or

2. A driving/agility tn 15 to drive in close and bob and weave, but then only a Tn 15 firearms/reflexes))

Vehicular Wipeout

Ichitaiyo gave an awkward toothy smile to reject the crackers and sighed. Final test it seems.

So, with a gentle breath, she mashed the accelerator- after all, she had a rally race to practice for, The old old and road unsafe tyres peeled forwards with a scream and Ichitaiyo set onward. She unholstered her service weapon, and held it off-hand, the motion not quite bothering her. She wasn't deterred by the rain of balls into the windshield, her sense well trained to not be distracted by the superfluous.

She had been lucky to read a little about driving in preparation for the rally, after all, she didn't want to disappoint Nagisa. Weight transfer and grip levels came to memory as she steered her steed to bob and weave around the cones and barriers smoothly, using the old adage of 'slow is fast'.

As she came close to the targets, she simply fired away without much regard for presicion as much ensuring a scale of hits on each cardboard- accuracy on a moving vehicle was moot, the tech was to play to the statistics that firing enough would result. The theory was proven correct, as each cardboard target sported a couple burn holes, and her sidearm sizzled and burned with the most recent barrage.

Now, the surprise. Knowing Ochiba, it might range from a gauntlet of play traps, to having to jump off a ramp like a vehicle acrobat.

Always detonate and drive

“That was sick, you’re a born driverbyer “
Ochiba leans over and slams the horn enthusiastically, it starts playing an upbeat toritaka melody.

“But can you handle… the final test?!?”
She jabs her communicator and the street ahead divides. On one side a selection of mannequins filled with jello and armed with styrofoam approximations of weapons, on the other a large ramp which would send the car flying.

“No time to think! Go with your gut!”

((The jump will be a TN 20 driving/agility to land the guy reasonably safely, the running over jello mannequins is two TN 15 driving/agility rolls that must both be passed to avoid totalling the vehicle as it gets destroyed by mannequin violence!))

"What the hells, Ochiba, you're insane!"

Still, instinct made her press the pedal and hold on for dear, as she wouldn't dare backing down from a challenge from the the Pirate that lit the fury in her guts.

The poor under-oiled engine roared to life, as it tried to gain all the speed it could before hitting the ramp.

The vehicle took off.

Glorious
Graceful

Not really. The front engine made it tilt forwards near instantly, and thus it landed right in the nose, possibly bending the front of the chassis up.

From her position in the footwell a discombobulated but joyous looking Ochiba finishes her chips

“That was EVERYTHING. You know I’ve never crashed a car nose first before? You’re a terror behind the wheel, completely fearless. Well, I’m counting your shouting as heroic brave shouting before hand as shouts of excitement.”

With a groan she climbs up onto the sideways sheet and peers over to check on the Dragon.
“You okay over there?”

The car's engine began to sizzle, as seemingly something that shouldn't be exposed to sparks was made sweet love with one.

Ichitaiyo was crumbled on the now-bottom door of the car, just like one of the many fast food napkins that still existed around. She groaned as she tried to find up from down, and wiggle herself to a half form of standing up, then hoisting herself up the broken side windshield.

Now the suit was truly ruined, with oil and scuffs.

"With all the love.. a friend can give... Fuck you, Ochiba-chan." she managed to utter between struggles.

Ochiba sniggers before holding out an arm to Ichitaiyo.
"Come on, let me help you up. And hey, you should be thrilled. You did everything right!...Well I would have gone of the mannequins, but the jump was also a correct choice. Now you know what your instincts are when the chips are down."

She rolls her neck with a few pops.
"And what it's going to be like for next car crash. I think we've honed you into a true badass today."

Ichitaiyo barked a laugh and took the card, promptly stowing it on her jacket pocket. "Were not because I have a sorta maybe paramour I'd ask for a reward kiss too."
