[D3 LM, waiting] Expedition

[Kuni Iwane]

"No no, I didn't mean with you," Iwane replied, shaking his head. "Besides, the people at Skycarp might have said something, had you tried."

While the Yasuki were proponents of near-free trade, Skycarp was also bound by the laws that limited the import of alien flora and fauna. The Crab were not above introducing new spiecies in an established ecosystem. Much of the Kuni world-gardening hinged on a few select, carefully cultivated bacterial strains. The Crab merely wanted to make sure that no tourists brought anything unwelcome with them.

"I mean more if you had stories of any discoveries you might have made," he specified, reaching to flick the tall reeds, their pollen shimmering in the air.

"Our professions are adjacent, at least." He nodded, tilting his head to the side. "Are you telling me that you avoid aromatics in your products? I've always associated herbal spas with.." There was a short pause, Iwane trying to figure out how to be sincere. ".. extravagant scents."

Kanna hadn't really considered that, but with some thought could recall that she had been forbidden to bring any other pet - especially those not native to Rokugan or Green Carp (and she had none native to Green Carp!).

"Ah, well, I don't really do that part of research. Not my department, my sister tells me," she chuckled warmly, clearly unbothered from being told so by family, hinting at pretty close family relations.

"Many heavily scented ingredients can cause irritations of skin when applied topically as part of skincare treatment. We do use a lot of aromatics otherwise though, mostly through aromatherapy and in general to create pleasing atmospheres. Pleasant scents have lots of good effects to smell, but not always on the skin!" Hah! She actually knew some things. "Scented oils are used for massages, but with care and knowledge to make sure it won't cause any problems."

With that, Kanna pocketed the fragrant flower she had picked up. "Besides, it's a medical spa, not a herbal spa. But we do have different herbal things available; like traditional pharmacy concoctions, teas, incense... uuh... probably some other things too I don't remember. I should try to remember to give a brochure next time, to get a better look at what we offer!"

"Fair enough." Iwane figured that Kanna knew something about the products they used and assumed that she was merely protecting trade secrets. He really could not fault her for that.

"I am aware. But that's not what happens with every scent, yes?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. "The more aromatics you have, the higher the risk, obviously, but it also depends on the compound used, no?" Iwane found it a little strange that a herbal spa would avoid scents. A Yasuki spa located close to his condo could be smelled from a few blocks away on a windy day. "And I suppose you could find some such aromatics here, too."

"A brochure would likely be useful, yes." Iwane bit his lip, wondering if Kanna was truly the best person her company could have sent to Shiawase. She was a bit of a natural airhead. "Assuming you'd want to set up a branch here?"

"That is our hope! To open up a branch here... if the Crab will it so, of course," she nodded respectfully to Iwane. Not that he represented all the Crab, but Kanna respected that it was the Crab Clan's decision on who they wanted to let in. Their clans were friendly, but friendship shouldn't be taken for granted!

"I hope it can provide relaxation and healing for natives and visitors here alike, and maybe even further cooperation between our clans, such as medicinal research for example." Her smile was sincere, truly wishing for a better friendship. "And, I hope that if we do get to open up a branch here, I can get to stay! I would have to request it from my family of course, but Green Carp is really nice, truly. I like it here a lot!"

"The governess seems to be open to the idea, at least. That said, you'll likely need a local partner. Makes everything easier." GenYako had cooperated with a Shosuro-owned pharmaceutical company that Iwane suspected of spying. He could not prove anything, but the Gilded Lotus Incorporated felt a little too convenient a partner considering their biological expertise, and their sudden interest in Green Carp.

"When you are dealing with the Yasuki, it's the koku that counts more than the goodwill." As Takara had put it, her kin was willing to sell almost anything and everything as long as the price was right. "That much I can tell you. Though impressing the governess could help. Perhaps you should try talking to her?" Iwane wasn't entirely sure if Kanna opening her mouth in the governess's presence would actually help her cause. She was a wee bit of an airhead.

"I do hope some are willing to partner with us, if we get that far."

Perhaps that is why she had been sent? To make friends? Kanna at least believed so! Business was easier to accomplish when people liked eachother and got along, according to her philosophy.

"Maybe I should try to make more of an impression on Yasuki-sama... yes," she murmured, clearly thinking. She had impressed with her gift, and performance so far, but would it be enough? "But it's not only Yasuki-sama, right? All of you, all the other Crab here, she'll listen to you too, right?"
