This led down a surprising rabbit hole.

To summarize, Woodworking would probably be correct here.

I don't think whoever wrote L5R understood the difference between carpentry (building structures) and woodworking (crafting furniture). Based on understanding of the Crafting skill, they probably should have said Woodworking. But Carpentry is the word they chose...

All of this to say, we will change your sheet to say Carpentry, but it's woodworking. Ugh.

  To be fair, the differences in technique for wooden furniture and wooden buildings of the era is not that great, just scaled up/down. The 'how do I make these joins work to hold up a castle vs a bookshelf?' is under the Engineering part of things rather than the crafting part of the process.

and after sending you down the rabbit hole, I didn't end up using Build. <.< But appreciate the clarification for the future.

This is really a question for all events that allow magic.

How does Reversal of Fortunes apply?

For the duration of this spell (3 rounds), the target may immediately re-roll any one roll per round. This must be done immediately after the first roll is completed, and the target may keep either result.

Events aren't generally broken down into rounds. Would it apply to only one roll? Or to three separate rolls?

Considering that the spell only lasts 3 rounds, it's very likely that not all 3 actions will be done in a non-combat situation, especially one with social interaction. It would only apply to a singular roll. Even then, it feels quite iffy (considering you're casting it and immediately doing the action in 18 seconds), but I will allow it for this event.

Does the Ikoma tech apply to the market when using perform Storytelling, giving some glory to the market place?

Unfortunately, as wonderful as it is to aid the children, I can't say this qualifies as a heroic or noble action for the tech to be used.

Minor note on this, in previous games I've played (and I think in games other than l5r?), the distinction is often between "woodcarving" and "carpentry", with one being more "build things" and the other more "make pretty stuff". Maybe that was the idea in 4e, but with iffy wording?

Just merely going by the Core Book as written, while there is certainly some room for a distinctive difference, it's just nowhere in its category outside of "etc". It's just a place where the thesaurus is going to have a bad time.
